Medicine needed

I posted this yesterday in the meetings sub-thread of things people could bring, then realised that probably is the wrong forum. So if the moderators want to delete original thread, please do so.

My wife has had migraine problems most of her life. A few years ago a doctor in NZ prescribed her Corgard (or Nadolol), a beta blocker, as a regular daily maintenance , and it works wonders.

Unfortunately, it appears not to be available in Thailand. She's run out, and efforts to have it mailed from NZ have failed so far.

I'm not sure where else it may be available. It is produced in the US (Tennessee), so I assume it is FDA approved, and will be available there. Not sure if it needs a prescription everywhere. It is not a harmful or dangerous drug as such, and I'm sure there is no black market as 'recreational drug' in the stuff.

Has anyone any idea how to get some brought here. Is there any member who is likely to come to LOS soon from the USA who could bring some? It is the only thing that works, and she's miserable without it. She has gone as far as to consider flying back to NZ to get a three months prescription made, but I wonder if there are any cheaper easier ways of doing it.

It isn't available in laos eitehr, haven't tried Cambodj, VN or malaysia/singapore. If it were available there, she'd fly there tomorrow.

Anyone in those places who'd care to check? We tried many pharmacies in LOS, but no luck.

Have you tried private hospital pharmacies (e.g., Samitivej, Bumrungrad, BNH, BGH, etc)? They'd be most likely to have it. A lot of drugs available in LoS are only available via these places.

I'm sure it is prescription only in US. Everything is.

Cheers,

SD

Hello,

As you said Nadolol is a beta-blocker. I do not know much about the use of beta-blockers for treating migraine. However, there are many different beta-blockers available in Thailand. If you can not find Nadolol you could make an appointment with a neurologist (I assume they look after migraine patients) and get a prescription for another beta-blocker that may be equally suited.

I checked my favorite online pharmacy located in India and they don't currently stock it, but they have great customer service and have gotten things for me before that were not on their regular list of products. It might be worth emailing their customer service dept and asking if they can get it. India manufactures a generic knock off of almost every drug known to man, although if the drug is too new, they may not be able to get it for a while. Anyway, the site is www.alldaychemist.com It would be worth sending them an email inquiry. Nothing to lose by asking.
