Students shot!

Another theory was that local people might have felt annoyed by the marching students who used loudspeakers.

A curious theory, and even plausible. Shootings over noise has happened in the past year.

But a .22 is more of a toy than a gun. I knew guys who would go out in the woods and shoot each other with .22 shorts while wearing jackets before the paintball era.

Students for PAD to march on Saturday

Anti-government students will meet at Makkhawan Rangsan bridge on Saturday evening before marching to two sites in Bangkok to demand for the resignation of Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej, Young PAD coordinator Wasant Wanich said.

Mr Wanat said the group will march at 7pm to two venues around the Government House. He refused to reveal where they will march, citing the concern that a third party might try to stage unrest there.

Young PAD comprises of students from 80 academic institutions including Kasetsat University, Chulalongkorn University, Thammasat University and Rangsit University.

Yeah right, denim jackets no doubt.

We're not talking about air rifles. Bobby Kennedy was assassinated with a .22 revolver!

<< Kennedy was shot three times, with a fourth bullet passing through his jacket, and died nearly 26 hours later. >>

p.s. This being Thailand and Thai reporters, I wonder if the calibre was 5.56mm/.223 cal.

You are confusing it with a pellet gun. A .22 is deadly. I was at a murder trial where the weapon was a .22 handgun. He was about 200 lbs and got shot in the chest. The bullet went through both lungs.

Young PAD rally at Democracy Monument

About 1,000 thousand school and university students marched to Democracy Monument in Bangkok on Saturday evening. They called on more youths to become politically active.

A group of students from 80 educational institutes calling themselves "Young PAD" marched to the monument to voice their political views. PAD stands for the Peopleâ??s Alliance for Democracy, which is demonstrating to force the resignation of the government.

Key members of the group told their young supporters to listen only to their orders and to gather in peace. Guard volunteers were providing security for them.

Earlier, the group released balloons as a sign of freedom, and different speakers gave speeches.

[color:red]However, Deputy Education Minister Boonlue Prasertsopha ordered the Commission on Higher Education to circulate a letter to to all universities nationwide, warning students that making political movements may not be legal and their future could be in jeopardy.[/color]

Mr Boonlue said he would like the students to understand that the emergency decree is still effective in Bangkok, and unforeseen events may occur even though they have the right to take part in political movements. He asked the parents and guardians to supervise their children.

The movements by students should not alarm the government because the government is democratically elected, according to the deputy minister.

A public referendum to resolve the current political crisis is being made, he added.
