Hugh_Hoy
SD...I read the link. Didn't really get bogged down on all the exceptions. When things heat up from time to time between the Thais and Khmers (as the recent skirmish around the ruins) all bets are off. I guess it's under the "emergency" exceptions maybe? (Ms Hoy hasn't been to Thailand for several years, so no need to get a visa. But maybe later this year... ) HH
..
Even that shit is not enough to stop the ASEAN visa stuff usually. Oonly exception I know of is the "emergency" a couple of years back when the Thai embassy was destroyed; and even then I'm not sure it affected travel. Pretty locked it, this is. I apologize if this is not clear to those not living here. ASEAN is *the* political power in this region and not much, if anything, undermines it. samak
I have a similar question. Thai nationals need a visa to go to China, do they not? everybody needs a visa to go to China except Singaporeans!
CTO
Wife went to Cambo last month with me for work - had to get the visa as was by air - went to Cambo by car to buy some things she's selling from a market on the border - no visa. Same as Laos - go by land no visa (But you can't travel far within the country) go by air you need passport etc
Hugh_Hoy
For sure when the Thai embassy was torched, the land border at Poipet was locked up. Stayed that way for several weeks. Ms Hoy was an admin assistant at one of the casino hotels at the time. No Thais...no gamblers/guests. 95% of the staff was furloughed until the border was opened again. This incident ended with the Thai Gov't. requiring Thai's to exit Thailand to Poipet even for a day of gambling to have a Thai passport. That was just another way of punishing Cambo, since a lot of the gamblers probably did't have passports and just postponed their junkets til when things would get back to "normal" between the two countries. It hurt the Aran Thai's also...the ones who run the stalls in the Aran market, tuk-tuk drivers, and touts. Previously, for 10 baht, Khmers could get a day pass to go to the market. No Khmers...no biz. Win-win, eh? :smirk: HH
