Korn tells THAI to solve financial woes

Finance Minister Korn Chatikavanij on Thursday said he assigned Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI)'s executives to come up with a plan to work out its financial troubles in an integrated manner.

According to Mr Korn, he received a report about THAI's financial situation and the plan should be forwarded to him within two weeks.

He said he will meet Transport Minister Sopon Zarum to seek solutions to its financial problems soon.

"The Finance Ministry, as a major shareholder of THAI, wants to see an action plan that reflects the actual causes of different problems, and the solutions need to be solved in the long-term," said the minister after he delivered his work policy to the State Enterprise Policy Office on Thursday.

Mr Korn said THAI, like other airlines, is facing setbacks from both the local and global levels. Some of them include less passengers, airport closures and high fuel prices in the previous year, and the company must prepare plans to cope with them, he said.

The Finance Ministry has prepared a budget of 200 billion baht to inject more liquidity in an attempt to support state enterprises, and it will be proposed at the cabinet meeting on February 3, according to the minister.

THAI runs into turbulence

Korn says rescue subject to proper rehab plans

The Finance Ministry's tough stance towards the national carrier comes as it struggles to deal with serious financial problems and is seeking a cash injection to shore up its liquidity.

THAI's recent performance has been poor because of fuel hedging obligations and the closure of Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports late last year. It badly needs backing from the Finance Ministry, which holds a 51% stake in the airline.

Assistance could come in the form of a ministry guarantee on loans the airline is seeking from state and private financial institutions.

The ministry is preparing up to 200 billion baht to lend to state enterprises that need to maintain liquidity. The plan is expected to be approved by the cabinet on Feb 3.

A share of the money could be an option for the troubled airline.

THAI said in a statement yesterday it needed 19 billion baht to resolve its liquidity problem this year.

"THAI also plans to raise 15 billion baht to replace its existing short-term borrowings," it added.

Korn said: "The Finance Ministry, as the major shareholder, wants to see a plan that will lead to the financial sustainability of the company and have long-term effects."

He said he wanted a solid plan that addresses its long-term operations and is not just a band-aid solution.

Problems identified by Mr Korn which THAI needs to tackle include cost saving, improvement in operations and route adjustments. The airline's plan is expected to reach the ministry within a few weeks.

He said THAI should learn how to manage itself as the global economic crisis and recent exorbitant fuel prices had affected all airlines.

The plan must be good enough to convince shareholders and the general public, he said, and solve problems at their root, he said.

Plus, the return schedule must be the brainstom of an idiot.

What's wrong with it? Days of week?

1930 departure - 1920 arrival sounds pretty good to me. I do prefer the morning departures from BKK, but I hate those after midnight ones because I always find a reason to miss them. :drunk:

Flight to Oz full, SD ? Of course it was, as full as my Feb flight to BKK with Thai - fuck fuck fuck ! I am so fucking sick of every motherfucking Australian and his cunting brother moaning and whinging that 'times are tough', when every cunting plane I try to get on is full of my ass-bandit countrymen and their hideous pox-ridden families !

We clearly have two sets of people getting on Thai airways - Australians and the rest of the world. The latter group are battening down the hatches, trying to ride out a fiscal shit-storm, while the former are continuing to take their bastard offspring to fucking Phuket to buy Jade elephants, hire deckchairs and get their miserable hair braided. All in large numbers, completely un-fucking perturbed by the possibility that they might be living in their cars by June.

All I ask for is one fucking plane that isnt filled to the gunwhales with screaming little shit machines, but no Gobble, thats just too fucking much for a syphillitic old cunt like you ! Aaaarggghhhhhh !

:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

Fuck it - if my flight over is anything like previous ordeals, its off to the Pattaya Diving Championships. 3 girls (preferably completely unhinged), tequila and anything above 10 floors should be just the ticket.
