Easy - t and y next to each other - you know what they say - big feet big . . . . .

Anyway I get hand made shoes because it's oddly cheaper and better quality - roughly 1000 - 2000 baht a pair - and they last a looooong time with me - I am someone who can wear out a pair of Doc Martins in 6 months.

Suk Soi 1 - the back lane between tollway and Bumingrad.

second shop on the left. This is going back about 2 years last time I bought from them. Previously it was 10 years ago - not bad 8 years for shoes I wear 5 days a week!

Singapore...

Cheers,

SD

About 18 years ago, I had to go to an event in Singapore and forgot to bring dress shoes. Couldn't find any to save my life and wound up borrowing a pair from another farang participant. Either I didn't know where to look, or things have changed, probably the latter.

PS. I'm only a size 10 1/2.

Sid - no idea - can;t remember the name - I've had 4 shoes made there - 2 ages ago 2 recently. One pair was too tight and not good so I refused them, they got remade. If quality was crap when you went back to pay (I only pay deposit) then refuse to pay balance till they get it right.

  • 2 weeks later...

Buyer Beware! I went to P-2-P shop on Sukhumvit Soi 7 (just outside New Wave Bar). The woman there was friendly and accommodating. Did foot tracing and marked sizes etc. She noted that one of me feet was slightly larger than the other and that I had wide feet. I chose a style and she "discounted" to 3,000 baht. Said it would take two days. I gave 2,000 deposit.

I decided to come back in three days just to make sure. When I arrived the woman said she had sent the shoes back to the "factory" as there was something she didn't like about the finish but I could come back in two hours and they would be ready. I returned three hours later and she produced a pair of shoes which clearly were far too small before I even tried them on. She insisted they just needed to be worn a bit and stretched.I made an attempt but I am guessing they were size 10 and narrow (I am 11-12 and wide). I told her clearly these were just off the rack shoes. They did have a label in them. She then tried to get me to order another pair and I politely declined and asked for a refund. At this point a "working girl" from New Wave had joined the conversation and was telling me to be more patient and that the shoes were best quality etc etc. I asked her to please stay out of the conversation and she said "This is my shop too."

I continued to politely ask for a refund and the shop owner finally said I had to return in the evening. She brought over a guy who she said was a "policeman" and he told me that I needed to come back the next day.

I left and returned the following day. The woman was not there but the New Wave girl came out of the bar and tossed two crumpled bills at me and walked back in. Later I was on Soi 1 and noticed the "An-An" shop and saw the same (identical label)pair of shoes on the rack there.

I am still on the hunt for shoes. Went to MBK and found one shop that had a pair even better than the ones I ordered for half the price but just a tiny bit too small.

Back home.

I search for size 4W or EEEE. Hard to find anywhere at any shop - but some do have them.

I have met people here with feet/foot problems and they are sent to an orthopedic shop where foot/feet are measured and special shoes are ordered. Expensive. But good fit.

Finding good shoes - walking shoes - tennis shoes - jogging shoes - sneakers - is much more difficult now as most if not all are made in China. I had a conversation with a 'pattern' specialist. His job was to take the shoe patterns to China to have shoes made in China then imported back to NA or Europe. He stated that he takes the correct patterns to China but somethimes the measurements/information is 'lost' in translation. Either the language or the conversion from inches to metric. Then there are the 'tolerances' - the actual shoe making machines. Those have to be constantly watched - and ususally not - in China.
