What if we had the technology to get to a planet that had a form of life that had creatures who it was debatable whether or not they were intelligent enough to be 'protected'. By that I mean if we found a planet with cows, horses, etc. We'd use those animals as beasts of burdens. However, what if we found out some creatures that showed just enough intelligence to question whether or not they should be regarded as 'equal beings'. Remember the Ewoks in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi? Something like that but even less so. What if it was some creature that was like the missing link here something between ape and cro magnum man?
