doxx
I notice many Thai men (seen it on waiters, drivers and more) keep nails really long (1 inch or so) on maybe a couple of fingers whereas the other nails are cut. Anybody else notice this? Can you explain?

Pom Michael
Luck. Not sure if Chinese or Thai actually. Normally just long on the pinkie - not all the fingers. ???
buddha
I always thought it was for blow....but I was always told it was for ear cleaning [probably boogers too].
pasathai1
Its a status symbol ( or used to be) to show that they don't have to engage in manual labor. I think it has more to do with face ( or maybe the coke thing these days) probably body "bling" for those too chicken to get a tatoo

Stickman
I once heard that they did this to show that they were NOT labourers or farmers, the idea being that a labourer or farmer would not be able to maintain long nails. Labourers and farmers are at the bottom of the food chain in Thailand. I have no idea if this is true, but I was once told it.

Kind of funny really... a taxi driver struggling to earn a few hundred baht per day trying to show he's high up the social pecking order.
