skirtlifter Posted September 14, 2009 Report Posted September 14, 2009 A mate has just informed me he came across a snippet on the Nation website that states the Imm. Office will be relocated from Suan Phlu to Chaeng Wattana from the 25th of this month. Haven't had time to check yet. Anybody know what's going on ?
ThaiHome Posted September 14, 2009 Report Posted September 14, 2009 I think the date is the 1st October, but yes they are moving to new government building on Chaeng Wattana near Vibhavadi Rangsit Road. TH
skirtlifter Posted September 14, 2009 Author Report Posted September 14, 2009 It's legit. Suan Phlu will be open for business til 25th Sept. The new place will be operational by the 28th. O.I.B.T (Only in bloody Thailand) Will be a bit of a headache getting there I believe. No diect link to the BTS or subway as I understand it.
Flashermac Posted September 14, 2009 Report Posted September 14, 2009 For most people it will be an absolute pain in the butt. But since when did the Thai bureacracy ever care about that?

ThaiHome Posted September 14, 2009 Report Posted September 14, 2009 As they are moving almost all government offices to the new complex, it is going to change a lot of people’s lives. Immigration is going to be just a very small part of what must the biggest building in Thailand. It has some 950,000 sq meters of office space. Here is Link with a lot of information. All the cranes are gone now and the landscaping is done. TH PS - All be damned if I can get the photo to come after the text. clicked the thumnail button and it did show the code for the photo, but when I tried to preview, it locked up.
WorldFun Posted September 14, 2009 Report Posted September 14, 2009 yeah very nice building & access not too bad from many parts of bkk area although at present nearest bts/mrt is some 10 km away (morchit/bangsue) there's cheap local train though just few stops before don muang (laksi I believed its called) from where it's 1km or less along the rd...
Pom Michael Posted September 14, 2009 Report Posted September 14, 2009 No issues with a taxi - cheap and easy to get there. Hopefully parking will be available too (unlike Suan Pluu). But - Suan Pluu isn't closing - will handle only Burmese/Lao/Cambodia immigration issues only! (I guess those people don't drive). But for many expats, still the one stop service center is the place to get their yearly stamps. Cheers!
cavanami Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 Got to keep the taxi and motorsai guys in business...
Flashermac Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 Looks like a lot of nice open countryside got paved over once again. Thais call this "progress". (Trees cause pollution!)
