Old Hippie
Any suggestions on what to use to scan my Mac for viruses and spyware? I have not used anything of the sort since I bought it, and figure it might be a good idea to check it...Thank you.
coops
Well, i've spent a fair bit of time mooching around at http://forums.macrumors.com/index.php , having switched over to Mac. There's no need for any anti-virus is main concensus, but i do have ClamXav installed, just to scan any occasional attachment or download i might not trust. http://www.clamxav.com/ Free, and not bloated Norton etc - so prob just what you're after. Coss
'bout the only thing I do is open disk utility - applications/utilities/disk utility and repair permissions on my hard disk periodically. The software security updates that download every now and then seem to take care of any virus problems. If you want to go more technical on the maintenance side of it I can recommend applejack - http://applejack.sourceforge.net/ once installed, you restart your mac, hold down CommandS and when ready, type "applejack auto restart" and it'll give your mac a clean down to the plumbing level. kamui
Another free cleaning and maintenance tool is Onyx. I run it every frew months.
Coss
Some, I've heard, use both Onyx and Applejack, for arcane reasons I can't determine.
