bust
I may have to drive from Bangkok to mae Sot during the holiday period. Just a bit nervous considering the number of road deaths over these days. Any tips......apart from the obvious one of "DON'T"
shygye
Only drive during daylight hours. Have a monk bless your car.

Specialist
Before 10 AM (I think) and after 7 PM (I think), you should be OK. The hooligans were pretty good last year about observing the time limits on the insanity. (Please note: at the stroke of 10 AM, the children, and the adults-in-calendar-years-only WILL start throwing water at everyone and everything in sight. They show NO mercy!) I'd be more concerned about the Red Shirts. If they get out of control again, things could get real ugly wherever they are.
limbo
The highways should be more or less hassle free, right? The main porblems most likely will be at secundary roads. Than again, TIT. Reduce your avrage speed so you have more reaction time and leaving early may help as well.
Nervous God
Your real problem is traffic jams. Driving on the first and last day you'll hit amazing traffic. It's taken me in the part up to 18 hours to drive a 8 hour trip! Travelling in the period is slightly better than the day before and the day after the last day. Flashermac
Best way to drive there is by plane.
bust
Last plane to fly to Mae Sot is still sitting in the paddock at the end of the runway...been there since 2007.
Julian2
You'd have to fly into one of those Northern cities and then rent a car, imagine trying to drive out of Chiang Mai with Songkran in full cry.
cavanami
Abrams tank? 50 cal machine gun? For sure, drive before 10AM and after 10 PM, to be a little safer...and drive a car, truck. A motorbike is quite risky, IME.
