Khattiya: Wise move not to wear red

t is wise of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) leaders to tell their supporters not to wear red to prevent authorities from taking action against them, army specialist and red-shirt supporter Khattiya Sawasdipol said on Sunday.

"The UDD leaders have made a good decision to ensure the protesters' security by telling them not to wear red," Maj-Gen Khattiya, also known as Seh Daeng, said.

The anti-government group had assigned their guards to distribute non-red shirts to the demonstrators at Ratchaprasong intersection.

"If the UDD leaders want to take decisive action they should do it within April 30 as it is the day the deployed troops will be removed. It would also take about 10 weeks for the army to train a new group of soldiers," Seh Daeng said.

He said the army would not likely to disperse the mass rally at Ratchaprasong anytime soon since they may not have enough personnel.

"The army would need more than 40,000 troops but their number is not enough at present," Seh Daeng said.

Meanwhile, the UDD leaders called on their supporters in other provinces to join the rally at Ratchaprasong following the reports on an imminent crackdown.

Seems that the troops on the outskirts of BKK may not have received that memo - they were resplendant in their red finery on tonights news here in Oz as they tried to blockade traffic in an attempt to stop Police reinforcing their colleagues in the city. Is it just me, or would this not be a fantastic time to engage in (non-political) crime on the streets of Bangkok ? Career criminals never had it so good.
