Hi All,

If you had spent 30 years trying to win Lotto, and you finally got 5 from 6, would you be happy or deflated ? Its on the back of 4 from 5 in Powerball last week and I am wondering if its ever going to happen. $2300 richer from multiple winners on multiple tickets and all I can do is wonder what might have been. I know - count yer blessings, dipshit - but all I needed was '35' instead of '5' and I would be on a plane to Malaysia within weeks. Fu*k it - time for some exceptionally large systems entries !

Damn you :neener: Stop bitching :applause::neener:

All I ever won was an office football bet -> got around 100 USD for that...

Not that I am a player because I never had luck with numbers, but no luck in games = good luck with women nope?

The thing about this was that I had SUCH high hopes - a System 20 syndicate entry that would have netted over a hundred K if it had done just a little better - and the real payout came from something I had slapped together without thinking. I wrote my own Perl code to generate 'random' entries, I analyse frequency/time since last drawn and the phase of the bloody moon - none of that had anything (conscious) to do with the money shot. May be that I should just quit while I'm ahead (ok, ahead for the week, if not the 30 year period) ...

One the tele.

I have seen multiple shows about the lives of winners of the lottery. Powerball, Megabucks, etc.

And, at least on these tele shows, all of the winners ended up dead or broke or both.

On some shows, they interview winners early on. And the winners state that they will help mankind, charity, etc. and keep some for themselves. Well nothing goes to charity, and they go to say - Las Vegas - and lose all. Or they spend and spend on crap like diamond rings exotic cars, etc. - only to hawk all.

Me? I'm different. If I won the lottery, I would donate some to charity and only spend what was really necessary. How much does a Ferrari cost now a days?

Simie,

Around the same era there was a group of five of us working together in Saudi and we put in a tenner / week each for 50 pops at the UK lotto using the same sets of numbers every week. 3 Numbers / week was quite common we also had a few 4 Numbers up and five on a couple of occassions.

Then the UK lotto went twice weekly and we ummed and arred wheter to enter the wednesday draw as well as the Saturday but decided against it.

A couple of months after the wednesday draw started the 10 Million Quid jackpot went unclaimed, and yep you have guessed it, if we had of entered our numbers for the wednesday draw we had the winning line.

Aye, but its the part between winning the money and ending up broke that interests me - if death intervenes, I couldnt have taken it with me anyway ! :smirk:

Our local media have run similar stories over the years - normally about legal cases arising out of relatives and friends trying to get their hands on the money - but my fave is the family from a place called Mt Morgan in Queensland. Back when a million dollars really was enough for your 'wildest dreams', these hillbillies have invested some of their dole money on the big one and come away with a million. Twelve months later, the money completely wasted, they asked the family spokesman how the hell they could blow that much money and end up back on the dole:

'Because we never had any money, we thought a million dollars would last forever. We took a few holidays, bought a few cars and it was all gone'. Reading between the lines, 'friends' have sold these hicks worthless land and even more worthless land yachts at exorbitant prices, but it felt great to know this was where my taxes went. Compulsory sterilisation cant come soon enough, people.

I won 200 Euro or 8000 Bt last night at blackjack :)

does that count ?

Impeccable timing, BB, with the plummeting Euro and all, but a win is a win and I congratulate you. Use the money to travel to Greece and slap some sense into the locals, would you ?

I know a few guys who claim to win regularly at the Blackjack table, but I never go near a casino or a racetrack - you can lose a lot of money on Lotto if you start taking out big systems entries, but even a thousand a week would pale next to the money lost at the other two locations. For someone who dreams of winning big, I am a cheap bastard :smirk:
