Hmmm....

I was never a fan of either GW Bush nor Chaney, but you comments don't seem to be supported by the provided link.

It was the GPO who outsourced the printing in 2008 (though under Bush's admin, but not his orders) and there is no mention of Chaney giving the contract to a crony.

 

The recent increase in PPort fees, which will be in effect July 13th, was proposed by the of the State Dept. in March 2010.

 

 

You can thank GW Bush for this increase.

"The Government Printing Office outsourced the manufacturing of U.S. passports to foreign firms and charged the U.S. State Department nearly twice what it cost GPO to have them made, the Times reported Wednesday, based on its investigation."

- 32 pages: 72 EUR (131 EUR when still living in Germany)

- 48 pages: 104 EUR (153 EUR when still living in Germany)

 

German passport inside Germany

32-pages: 37,50 EUR

48-pages: 59,50 EUR

 

Generally:

New passport at a German embassy outside Germany:

regular fee plus up to 300% !!!

Express passport outside official embassy hours: additionally plus max. 200 % !
