Flashermac Posted April 11, 2013 Report Share Posted April 11, 2013 I remember a survey of Washington journalists back when Stiff Willy was president showing that a clear majority thought a journalist's duty was to "influence public opinion." Whatever happened to just reporting the facts and letting people decide what to think? All we have now are journalists giving their view of what they think the public should know. The genius of Rupert Murdoch and Roger Ailes is that they have convinced their viewership that they provide the real news and all others provide fake news. All other news sources – other then Rupert Murdochs newspapers – are part of the “liberal mediaâ€. Throw in the term “fair and balanced†hire a few Democrat hacks and voila. Just about everything on Fox News or MSNBC is scripted. Just view the eyes of those commenting. They are all reading a teleprompter or screen in front of them. Every word is choreographed. Each presents news that the viewer wants and desires to hear. Viewership is ratings. Ratings is dollars. Dollars are profits to all of those corporations. I would like so see a survey of the executives of the above named companies and their party affiliations. I would like to see a survey of the party affiliation of the shareholders of the above named corporations and their party affiliations. I highly doubt that all is slanted to the Democrat party. The actual numbers. Not a name or two of some liberal. Excluding mutual finds, 401K and such – only about 32% of Americans own actual stock certificates. Does anyone really think that of this 32% - somehow these folks are Democrats. My guess is that just about all are Republicans. So you got the executives of these corporations that are mostly Republicans and the actual stockholders of these corporations are mostly Republicans – then why is all of the media other then Fox – liberal? The Associated Press reported that the authorities were helping injured runners leave the scene and bloody spectators were being carried to a medical tent that was being used for runners. The A.P. said that a loud explosion was heard on the north side of Boylston Street, near a photo bridge that marks the finish line. Another explosion was heard several seconds later. Local television showed ambulances at the scene. Pictures posted online showed several injured runners being attended to and smoke around the finish line. The headquarters for the organizers of the marathon, one of the world’s oldest, was reportedly locked down while authorities investigate. Reporters inside the Copley Plaza Hotel, where the media center is and where many elite athletes are staying, were unable to leave. The explosions went off more than four hours after the start of the men’s race, which meant that there were still several thousand runners yet to finish the race. Big city authorities are typically on the highest levels of alert for events like a marathon, said Anthony Roman, a security expert. “It is quite the counterterrorism effort,†said Mr. Roman, who runs Roman & Associates, a New York firm. For major events in New York and other large cities, Mr. Roman said the police would typically weld manhole covers shut, while also examining the entire route just before the race. They will also place snipers on rooftops, with helicopters overhead. Analytic cameras in the city will be focusing on the race, he said. “They have all the analytic cameras in the city focusing on the race with their advanced software network, reading license plates,†Roman said. The Boston Marathon is one of track’s most storied events, established in 1897 and one of the six World Marathon Majors. The event typically attracts an estimated 500,000 spectators and requires certain qualifying times for runners to compete. The course winds throughout downtown Boston as well as several outlying cities, including Ashland, Framingham, Natick, Wellesley and Newton. Unlike many sporting events that take place in closed arenas, marathons are known and heralded for their sprawl, allowing throngs of spectators to line the 26.2-mile course. Within minutes of the explosions on Monday, social media and cable networks projected the images of gray smoke on Boylston Street in Boston, emergency crews on the scene and an unknown number of persons injured. A huge police operation started after an officer was shot dead on a university campus. One suspect was killed during a car-chase and shoot-out in Watertown, six miles (10km) from Boston. More than 520 flights on American and regional affiliate American Eagle had been canceled as of 3:15 p.m. ET, according to flight-tracking service FlightStats. Ouch....that's gonna leave a mark. That's definitely one contingency that I hadn't thought of when I booked my wife and 3 children's flight to LOS on two different airlines (WN/MALAYSIA) .
