A chef who served the University of Oklahoma Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity is out of a job, after a racist chant by frat members shut it down.

The move to shut down Sigma Alpha Epsilon comes after video of the chant went viral in which fraternity members on a bus ride declared "there will never be a n***** in SAE to the tune of "If you're happy and you know it."

On Monday, University of Oklahoma President David Boren said the punishment may not end there.

"I think the best way for us to send not only a message to this campus but also across the country is (to show) that there's zero tolerance for this kind of racist behavior," Boren said. "Those students (in the video) will be out of that house and that house will be closed and as far as I'm concerned it won't be back, not as long as I'm president of the university."

But ironically, the stand against racism had a negative impact on an African-American who was the resident chef for the SAE house for 15 years. He's out of a job.

The fund has already raised up to $18,425.

WTF??

:shakehead:help::dunno:

By Phillip Swarts - The Washington Times - Saturday, March 7, 2015

The student government at the University of California, Irvine, voted Tuesday to remove all American flags from one of their rooms, arguing that the flag could be considered offensive and anti-inclusive.

The bill — which passed with six yays, four nays and two abstaining – would remove all flags, including the Stars and Stripes, from the lobby of the building that houses the undergraduate governing body, known as the Associated Students of University of California, Irvine (ASUCI).

Written by student Matthew Guevara, the resolution says that “flags construct paradigms of conformity and sets homogenized standards for others to obtain, which in this country typically are idolized as freedom, equality and democracy,†Campus Reform reported Friday.

It goes on to say that the American flag “has been flown in instances of colonialism and imperialism.†Therefore in the effort of making the “main lobby space as inclusive as possible,†all flags will be removed so as not to make students uncomfortable.

Mr. Guevara’s resolution says that the ASUCI supports freedom of speech, but adds that “freedom of speech, in a space that aims to be as inclusive as possible, can be interpreted as hate speech,†Campus Reform reported.

The bill concludes by saying that any other “decorative item†will be removed from the space if a student makes a complaint about it.

The ASUCI Executive Cabinet overturned the American flag ban on Saturday by vetoing the resolution passed by the Associated Students of the University of California at Irvine (ASUCI) Legislative Council (ASUCI) on March 5, according to the SF Gate.

The ASUCI Constitution grants the Executive Cabinet the power to veto any resolutions or bills passed by the government body within six days.
