kamui
so the begging question as always - when will the coup be or why not? Jatuporn: PAD inviting a coup http://www.bangkokpo...eds-to-stay-put Bill showdown could spill over onto the streets http://www.nationmul...s-30183321.html House Speaker calls off deliberation of reconciliation bill following protest http://www.nationmul...a-30183314.html etc etc I am surprised that the conflict did accelerate so fast. But on the other hand the ruling party intended to push the bill through with all means and against mounting resistance. In LOS you never know of you are just watching a comedy or a tragedy. I found most strange that when the bill was discussed at parliament Yingluk and Sonthi, the sponsor of the bill, where absent. I wonder what/how much Sonthi was promised for introducing the bill. And Yingluk, as aways when her brother is concerned, plays the innocent.... As if she isn't involved in this matter at all.
WorldFun
indeed the VIPs being absent proved that something was a miss and luckily for the opposition the bill approval was suspended indefinitely... KS better seal your deal asap - cheers
Coss
In LOS you never know of you are just watching a comedy or a tragedy. I always know I'm watching a comedy & a tragedy, that's the only reason I follow Thai politics. Better than TV. Thai politics reminds me of Soap, a TV comedy, that was a Soap that took the piss out of Soap Operas. The Thais manage, IMHO to ridicule themselves at every turn, and yet they're not predictable. I remember Government saying how tourist numbers were on track to increase by 10 or 20% or something, this just after the Tsunami. I found most strange that when the bill was discussed at parliament Yingluk and Sonthi, the sponsor of the bill, where absent. Implausible, plausible deniability. Gadfly
Hi, I sure fucking hope not We are very close to closing a government deal and a coup would really fuck me over. Sanuk! Agree. But the skirmishes don't seem to end. There are just lulls in the battles. This goes beyond just one man - Thaksin, who has opportunistically appointed himself leader of the poor - and I just don't see how this will be resolved peacefully. We seem to be headed towards another show down. And if calmer heads don't prevail, I suspect it will be worse than what we saw last time.
gobbledonk
Cant see how this will ever go away in a country with such a huge gap between the rich and poor, coupled with a military which doesnt seem to see itself as subject to the elected representatives of the day. I expect that sort of madness in a banana republic like Fiji, not a highly industrialised country like Thailand. Always happy to hear otherwise, but that's what it looks like from here. Flashermac
My taxi driver yesterday was advising me to move out of Bangkok for some place like Chiang Mai. He said he expects violence in another week or so, with little chance of an end to it. He was disgusted with all politicians, though he holds Thaksin most to blame. Horneytorney
and now to the most important question: what impact does a new outbreak of violence have on showing in Cowboy and the common ST/LT rates?
Flashermac
Dave32 and I were on Patpong one afternoon during the red shirt occupation of the area. The BGs saw us and got very determined, trying to lure us in. We must have been the first Farangs they'd seen in a while. However, virtue prevailed and we resisted (fucking idiots ...)
