Guest
Ok, I'm starting to get pissed off about my JAL FF miles program. Since I purchased the bargain airfare I get like half the FF miles! To get anykind of upgrade perk, I need to be in the 30k miles range. My mileage at the moment is 16800. And when dec 31st rolls around, 5600 of my miles expires! I'm getting nowhere with this program. Granted, I paid $665.00 for round trip from SFO to BKK. Now I'm wondering if it's worth that low cost to fly in coach all the time. Anyone have suggestions on some carriers FFM programs? Hmmn, mebbe UPSer would know. Also, if I do switch carriers, could I switch my miles from JAL as well? TroyinEwa/Perv
Aloha......I can only speak with fact about NW FF program but would have to say that probably most US carriers would be very similar. You spoke about only getting half miles for discounted tickets and miles that will expire. With NW, there is no such thing as half miles for discounted tickets and miles never expire. Not sure the price but would have to think they would be competitive with JAL. Check with some US carriers.
ThaiGirlLover
Being based in the US: I am flying JAL from SFO to BKK at the end of this month. I will be claiming my miles on American because they have a partnership. In my opinion, American have a very good FF program, though I do believe Continental was rated the best. Pianoman
I usually fly NW, and have found their program to be the best available... Not always the lowest fare, but you always get the miles flown, plus either 50% or 100% bonus miles based upon your status... They sometimes run Upgrade Specials were I can use far less miles to upgrade than I get for the flights... Even at worst, I spend 50,000 to upgrade (round trip) and gain about 36,000 for the flight.... Pianoman
shygye
American also only gives half the miles flown for discount tickets. American and JAL are partners in that you can earn American FF miles on JAL. Try EVA and their deluxe class (38" seat pitch). You get a 25% bonus flying this class plus it is usually cheaper than coach on NW. [shock]
Big Kev
I got a fantastic price on Singapore Air for recent trip. But is was a fare that did not count at all towards FF points. So, when I got the statement from Sing Air, it showed the trip, but also showed zero credit toward FF. I guess my policy has always been to shop for lowest out of pocket price and just take whatever FF miles they happen to throw in. As a result, I have FF accounts with multiple airlines but rarely accumulate enough to take much advantage of.
iuytrede
I have Swissair's FFM (they went bankrupt and now call themselves Swiss Air). Theoretically I have enough miles for three free tickets. In practice, they have never given me anything (tried 2 times, first time they cancelled their flight, second time Cathay refused to accept the miles even Cathay participates in their program). I am going to try a third time, but they sound like they are not going to give me anything again except many lame excuses. A lot of FFM you can never redeem

Cathay belongs to the One World group of airlines, same as British Airways or Qantas. Swissair was a member of the so called Qualiflyer group. Are you sure that they also had a FFP/Mileage agreement with Cathay?
JJsushi
I would suggest that you fly UA only because you would be part of the StarAlliance network. TG, SQ and ANA all fly to BKK and are part of the network plus u would get 100% of the flight miles counted as status mile with UA. The only problem that I have with UA is that their BKK tickets are not competitively priced I can always find an economy fare at least $150 cheaper on TG, unfortunately for me I dont get the 100% mileage bonus for flying TG just status miles. The other problem I have is its is really a pain getting an upgrade all the way through to BKK the damn NRT-BKK leg always gets mucked up for upgrades. BTW-Your JAL miles cannot be converted to another airlines FF program
samak
yes, swissair had a ff agreement with cathay, but i think that's gone.
