Todays is 5 years since I came to Japan (Papa had been there for 5 years before that)

Financial crisis was just unfolding. Even the news about Lehman Brothers collapse came a day later. Henry Paulson, then FED of US. Suvarnabhumi airport:

Daily press from that day:

Weekleys knew it too:

More than half of my biological life I have spent in Japan. Even more, if the "conscious" life starts after 3 years old. Not bad, so far.

This machine, Thai Airways HS-TJG, A-330 took us not out of the crisis but into it:

Let's "give some fark about Japana".

For some, a high risk country. Higher than working in Iraq or *stan. Death within a reach, dirt cheap.

Whiskey Balantines 250B, Stoli 200B.

If it not were every day, whole day, every supermarket, one would think it's a "Days of vodka in Japan" promotion.

Here, Smirnoff is about 250B for 750cc bottle.

Even other brands similar price:

Bored with that taste? There are more, all fruit flavours:

Bottled attractively as if they were juices:

For those in whiskey, quite good ones (quality like Johnny Walker) go also in 4 litres flagons:

The most expensive, 800B is "pure malt", far better than Ballantine's:

Next to it, 2,300Y = ~ 600B for 4 litres. Works out:

- one litre 150B.

- A normal 700cc bottle out of the flagon would be 100B.

- Half litre would be 70B. Quite near 60B as 1/2 litre of the poison called "Lao Khao".

They are cheap as there is no heavy tax. Japanese simply can't stand those spirits.

Who's buying them then? Restaurants, bars, probably even cheaper. And retirees.

They all like "highball" combination of ice, soda and whiskey (50cl mixed in half litre of soda and ice).
