khunsanuk
Hi, "Bt500 bn lost and 3 mn tons rice missing from the rice scheme." To put that in perspective a bit. According to this site the average monthly salary in Thailand is ~12,200 Baht (which seems high to me), which is ~146K/year. So, the government lost the equivalent of almost 3.5 million years average wages! Sanuk!

Flashermac
The Post or Nation (forget which) a while back used figures that showed the average income in Thailand was about 60,000 baht a year, just 5,000 baht a month. Basically, the way that most Thais get by is by having more than one income earner in a family. Several taxi drivers have assured me recently that they can make 10,000 baht a month without much trouble, and that is enough lie on. If the wife or someone else can make a few thousand baht more, so much the better.
