StoneSoup
From the "be careful what you wish for department" comes this story about an American guy who obviously had too much free time on his hands: American who tore up tourist visa so he could be imprisoned 'to experience human rights abuses in North Korean prison' is sentenced to six-years hard labor in communist country Since the Daily Mail is censored in Thailand, you'll need to use a VPN service to read the article http://www.dailymail...an-6-years.html The American, who tore up his own tourist visa on landing in North Korea and demanded to be arrested so that he could experience prison life in the communist nation, has been sentenced to six years hard labor for entering the country illegally to commit espionage. Matthew Miller, 24, of Bakersfield, California, looked thin and pale at his trial in Pyongyang on Sunday, as he was handed out his sentence. Man - if they think he looks "thin and pale" now, wait until they see how he looks when he comes out of a NORTH KOREAN HARD LABOR PRISON in 2020. This is definitely one of those "WTF was he thinking?" scenarios. Cheers! SS

jitagawn
But but but... is this really what happened or is this just what the wacky N Koreans present to the world?. How would we know what is what? Sounds too nutty even for a kid from Bakersfield If true well its is a mad world.
Guest
I'm not sure about the wacky North Koreans , the only wacky person I can see is him , apparently he is now pleading for help from America and the world to get him released from this position. He got what he wanted, to report abuse on life in a North Korean labour camp and he will be able to do just that at first hand. I'm sure when he is released he will go back to America with a hero's welcome and cheering in the streets ..... he is an American after all and should not be imprisoned by these horrible nasty people. Coss
What's likely is that he thought that the North Koreans would welcome a compliant westerner to be used for propaganda purposes. What he didn't see in advance is that the North Koreans have been indoctrinated from birth and on almost a daily basis, to know, absolutely, that Americans in particular are devils and evil. Any overtures from an American are therefore only going to lead to their version of hell. This of course excludes anything/one their leader is interested in, like basketball, or muscular men of movie like character.
