Khao Kheow open zoo in Chon Buri province has decided to ban visitors from carrying slingshots, after a Chinese tourist was caught in the act of using one.

The image of a Chinese woman using a slingshot, as two of her fellow tourists looked on, was posted on the webpage of “Kha Moo and the Gang”, which reported that zoo officials had seen the image and were in the process of checking at what the woman was aiming, because there are not usually many animals in that area.

The zoo’s chief, Narongwit Chodchoi, told Thai PBS Online today that he has asked for the image of the incident to be used as evidence in a complaint to be filed with the local police, adding that he will ask the tour company to tell its customers not to carry slingshots into the zoo.

He said that tourists might not know all the rules, but their tour guides should warn their customers about what is not permitted in the zoo...

Coss comment:  I can imagine hearing the Chinese equivalent of - "Can eat?"

No idea why people behave badly in these places…whether it is pissing at the Grand Palace or Angkor Wat or littering etc…. A number of year back, there was some young drunk Fijian punks throwing stuff at a tiger in the San Francisco zoo. They threw small rocks and were just being abusive to the tiger…long story short, the tiger jumped out of the enclosure and killed the one guy and mauled the other one nearly to death, then took off and hid and was ultimately killed by a cop. This being the USA, the family sued the city… Experts say the tiger probably would not have jump the enclosure if it wasn’t so pissed…. So um maybe if these people get mauled a few times they will knock their shit off..?

Similar problems with people in National Parks here, petting the bears and buffalos getting too close to elk and deer and then getting thrashed. A few years back a child wanted to play with a baby elk in Yosemite, ended up getting killed…sad and oddly everyone ignores the facts and does it anyway…
