Police Raid 'Kar Phuk Maad', Rama 9’s Controversial BDSM Club

Bangkok’s underground BDSM scene was shaken this week after a high-profile police raid targeted Kar Phuk Maad, a quasi-legal club operating near Rama 9 Road. Known for its boundary-pushing 'shibari' (rope bondage) performances and curated “swing” atmosphere, the club had become a magnet for both locals and expats seeking taboo thrills. Authorities arrested the club’s founder, Sutthipong “Hajime” Chantharak —a celebrated 'kinbakushi' (rope artist)—alongside two staff members and six patrons, seizing over 100 costumes and BDSM paraphernalia .

The Club’s Rise and Fall
Opened in 2016, Kar Phuk Maad blurred the line between artistic performance and illicit activity. Male patrons paid 2,000 THB for entry, while women entered free—a policy that drew criticism for enabling transactional encounters despite its guise as a “members-only art space” . The club reportedly earned 44 million THB over its 9-year run, capitalizing on Rama 9’s reputation as a hub for underground swing nightlife.

Sutthipong, a media darling featured in documentaries, hosted workshops on 'kinbaku' aesthetics, attracting foreign tourists and Bangkok’s elite. Yet behind the velvet curtains, attendees often engaged in swing bar” style activities a no no under Thailand’s strict indecency laws. Police allege staff facilitated sexual acts in private rooms, violating public morality statutes despite the club’s “closed-door” policy .

'Bangkok’s Double Standards'
The raid highlights Thailand’s fraught relationship with adult entertainment. While venues like 'Demonia' (Sukhumvit) and Barbar' (Patpong) operate openly as fetish clubs with staged shows , Kar Phuk Maad faced scrutiny for its unregulated “freestyle” environment. Pol. Col. Thanawat Srisuwan, leading the raid, stated: “Artistic expression is not a shield for illegal activities.” Critics, however, note that influential networks often protect high-end brothels and go-go bars, suggesting selective enforcement .

Local Reactions
Nattapong “Bank” Wirat, a regular patron, lamented: “It’s 'sanuk' (fun) for open-minded people. Why target us when Silom’s ping-pong shows run freely?” .
Ratchanok Sriboonruang, a sex worker advocate, argued: “Clubs like Kar Phuk Maad thrive because Thailand refuses to modernize its laws. Criminalizing consenting adults helps no one.”

The Aftermath
The raid has sent shockwaves through Bangkok’s BDSM community. Ms. Araya “Mistress Noi” Prommin, a dominatrix at Barbar, noted: “We follow strict rules—no sex, just shows. Kar Phuk Maad crossed the line, but 'khon di' (good people) suffer when police make examples” .

Meanwhile, Sutthipong’s legal team claims the charges are exaggerated, citing his contributions to “cultural exchange.” The court case, set for June, could redefine the limits of Thailand’s adult entertainment industry.

Bondage can be Art and the talent it takes to do intricate roping shouldn't be dismissed. Unfortunately not always seen that way.

Remember when I got banned from Teak Door for sharing a particular experience :rotl:

Was right up there with Frede's special calling card. Remember him? Was priceless
