Just read an analysis report done by a professor of Chulalonkorn University on Thai male prostitutes. It says that there are over 20,000 male prostitutes in Thailand, mostly in Bangkok and Chiangmai and popular beaches in the South. Some men are dancers, sex performers but most of the men profess themselves as tour guides, ballroom dance instructors, waiters, taxi-drivers. There were protests from the ?ballroom dance instructors? but the professor maintained that his report is correct.

 

 

 

Talking about ballroom dance instructors, most of you who have read my posts so far know that I am a ballroom dancer. Once when I was in Thailand, I checked out a ballroom studio in Bangkok, hoping to find someplace to go. I was asked whether I needed an escort who not only could dance but also would be willing to cater ?other needs?. The fee was Baht 400/hr, 5 hours minimum. The ?other need? price was Baht 1,000 on average depending on the client?s looks and age. Being curious (that is ?moi?), I asked for explanation on the criteria of ?client?s looks and age?. It was said that females are harder to please the older they are, the more experience they are!! Lord, I could have spent a fortune per night!

 

 

 

I have no idea what the nightlife is like in Bangkok. How prevalent do you think the ?male prostitutes? are? Are they in much demand? I have known that the Japanese and rich Thai women are their clients, how about the women from the Western countries?

There is (was?) a samba instruction school on Ratchadapisek, in an area with lots of karaoke bars and massage parlours. Same area is also home to a male karaoke bar.

Fairly I would say. Plenty of bargirls spend their money in these places. No clue about other women though.

No idea, but I guess so. I mean if there are 20,000 of them, there must be a demand.

I would venture a guess that the vast majority of male prostitutes in Thailand cater to other males. Did this study make a distinction?

I meant too, plenty good-looking ladies escorted bt thai males, especially on these islands. Pattaya was first known as the place for bored farang housewifes to elope with their thai BF, BTW. Not a new phenomenon

The study did mention that some of these prostitutes cater to older males (Asian men), no percentage mentioned. The article was meant to offer critiques to the morale of the Thai society on ?money is god? concept. The income of these males, especially the ballroom instructors interviewed were over Baht 100,000/month. That is, lots ballroom classes, I would say!

 

 

 

It also mentions that these males do have better than average looks and in their early 20s, and over 45% graduated from high school and many hold a bachelor degree. Also, mentioned that, most men work temporarily, average about a month and would quit or rotate to a new location. Some would quit for a while until the money is needed again, these are the ones who are students.

there are lots of male prostitutes here, the so called "ballroom dance" instructors work generally in lady's only nightclubs. generally that is a thai only scene, and most of the female clients are from the upper classes. the men employed there are very well behaved and are good dancers too. i knew a while ago a guy who owned a place like that. very expensive.

 

then obviously you have the farang oriented gogo bars, where most male prostitutes are generally bi sexual, in some aspect similar to the hetero "sanuk" scene. foreign women and gogo girls are also clientel there.

 

you also have massage parlours and bars catering more to the asian taste.

 

 

 

the number of 20 000 for the whole of thailand though appears a bit low to me, but who am i to argue with a lecturer. i just think that stating a number in that scene might even be more difficult than in the hetero scene, for which the numbers differ wildly.
