BaronTT
Many places in BKK have them. Even the sellers that don't have them know about them. I've gotten them in all of the places I previously mentioned. They have a (red?) circle on the package which says "9" on the front cover. It usually says "Dual-Layer". But the circle - 9 is difficult to miss.

Guest
Thanks again for the info, I am particularly interested in the Japanese uniform DVD's which I presume are copied from Japanese originals. Does anyone know what region Japan is? Uniformguy

The films you seek do not get a wide release and they don't care about zones. No need to have multiple versions.
Old Hippie
Interesting enough, I am seeing more and more "all region" dvd players. Costco here (a big discount warhouse chain here in the states) has one for $69.95 usd, worth having if you want to buy movies with out worrying! Costco here (a big discount warhouse chain here in the states) has one for $69.95 usd, worth having if you want to buy movies with out worrying! Now there is a thought! I could finally watch Suriothai (?), which I bought last trip on the day it was released. Paid a staggering amount (for LOS) like 600 baht, and have yet to watch it. Thought tilac and family would want to see it on the new DVD player. But no, just karaoke DVDs. So yes, $69 is a good deal. Except I leave in ONE WEEK for LOS. The value of everything has shifted. My parking no longer costs $8 a day, it is 6.267 ladies drinks. The $3 bagel breakfast buys me melon, pineaple, mango, bad coffee and brands. The two beers with dinner tonight didn't cost me $14, well never mind as alcohol is exempt. But the DVD player: 2 beer changs, 1 green mango, fried grass hoppers, 2 chicken skewers, 3 ladies drinks, 1 sky train fare, 2 condoms, 1 bar fine, a taxi fare AND a long time! From what I understand, the movie isn't THAT good! ::

Guest
Japan is region 2 (yes, the same as Europe, kinda funny, I guess they figured that since Japan is an NTSC country and Europe is PAL/SECAM, this would effectively make them like separate regions). Guest
Yeah last time I was in Japan I bought some VHS tapes in Tokyo and they worked perfectly in my video in Ireland but I am living in OZ now, so just wanted to check. Thanks. Uniformguy
solar
Only one word of warning. I bought some 'DVDs' on Sukhumvit Road. The packaging indicated they were DVDs but the disk turned out to be a VCD - crap quality. BTW, am I right in thinking that all computer DVD players are 'region free'?
