Our oldest server, which had been on-line since 1995- had to be shut down on short notice due to an uncooperative network service. There were lots of little special tweaks in there, and it took a few days to sort it all out. With any luck, this won't happen for another 7 years ;-} "messages all unread" sounds like a cookie problem.
