Coss
Hello all, I've just found out my favourite place to stay in Phonm Penh - Californa Cafe 2 has closed. Any recommendations on the following or a place on or near the river $20 - $30? http://www.riverstarhotel.com/abouthotel.php http://www.tonlesapguesthouse.com/index.html http://www.rorysirishbar.com/ Cheers Coss
CTO
I stayed in a street full of "Golden" named hotels - the one on the corner I'll stay next time - VERY nice hotel - $30/35 a night - wifi etc. Another friend strongly recommends http://www.hotelcara.com/

dddave
"BRIGHT LOTUS GH" I forget which street but close to where C2 was, only a block from the river: decent rooms.
unit731
Whatever happened to the Flamingo?
dddave
Whatever happened to the Flamingo? Flamingo's is always almost always full and has increased rates about 25%, not quite the bargain it once was. They were also having a significant problem with theft from rooms: they had just fired a whole crew my last time there but several weeks after that a friend had a camera stolen. In my case, and I think perhaps with other regulars, I became too well known by the staff and moto drivers out front; as soon as I arrived, mobiles were whipped out and certain parties with whom I wasn't particularly interested in re-uniting were notified of my presence: a few awkward situations the result. ..
And besides, the way they threw away Lao Hu Li back in the day makes me uninterested in spending any time there. Cheers, SD
kamui
I stayed at the River Star two times already, the last time for a week around New Year. I like the hotel. Not too big, friendly staff, free internet PCs in the lobby, nice clean and simple rooms with aircon. I would recommend to take one of the corner rooms on the upper floors with a balcony to the river side. I always enjoyed the view on the river. Riverstar is guest friendly and if a girl leaves at night the receptionist will call you if everything is ok. I liked this added security.
Coss
Thanks Kamui, That's exactly the info I'm looking for. Did you book far in advance? Cheers Coss
kamui
Did you book far in advance? Nope, just one, two weeks ahead. Depending on the season, you can just walk in. The hotel is not that centrally located like California II, especially if you want to visit the palace and the National Museum daily. On the other hand, it is located between the two bar streets 104 and 136.
