  1. He was born in the U.S. and was a U.S. citizen, so securing the borders would not have stopped him. The question is; how could anyone be legally allowed to purchase the type of guns that allow someone to shoot over a hundred people (out of the estimated 300 persons in the nightclub). I don't know the answer to how much Liberty the American public would be willing to turn over in giving law enforcement the tools to handle extremists and nut cases.
  2. Not a weekend to go to concerts or gay bars in Orlando. I imagine that Disneyworld is on high alert!
  3. Mr. Hockey, Gordie Howe, winner of 4 Stanley Cups with the Detroit Red Wings and MVP of the NHL 6 times, has died at age 88. He started in the NHL when Truman was President and finally retired when Carter was President. With all the press coverage of the Ali funeral today, Gordie's passing won't get the attention that it deserves,.
  4. I left an ATM card drawn on U.S. Bank with the lady that takes care of my house. Over the last year, and in particular last week, she has used it at her neighborhood SBC branch near Chiang Mai with no problems.
  5. I assume that poor safety standards include no fire sprinklers or smoke alarms or practicing fire alarm drills. It's horrible but maybe, it will lead to better safety procedures. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for them.
  6. Safer's reporting of U.S. soldiers burning down a Vietnamese village in 1965 helped to make his career but also brought death threats against him and hatred from many in the Pentagon. I don't think that Safer was very popular with the troops after 1965.
  7. A week after announcing his retirement from 60 Minutes and 50 years at CBS, reporter Morley Safer has died at age 84.
  8. The last surviving actor in the movie "Casablanca," Madeleine LeBeau, has died in Spain at age 92. She played Humphary Bogart's girlfriend who he dumped for Ingred Bergman. She later joined in the singing of Le Marsaille at Rick's Cafe (she says Vive La France). In real life, she and her Jewish husband fled the Nazis as Paris fell in June, 1940. She returned to France after the war and was in the movie "8 & 1/2".

  11. You have another 6 weeks of Primaries, the Republican and Democratic Conventions this summer and then 2 months of more campaigning and then the election the first Tuesday of November. With any luck, we will then know the next President. If not, it could be like Bush V Gore in 2000.
  12. WORLDPOST Drunk Drivers In Thailand May Be Forced To Work In A Morgue The country is one of the worst in the world when it comes to road deaths. 2 hours ago Alexandra Ma Editorial Fellow, The Huffington Post SUKREE SUKPLANG/REUTERS Thailand introduced a new penalty for repeat traffic offenders and drunk drivers: community service in hospital morgues. If this doesn’t make drunk drivers change their ways, not much will. Repeat traffic offenders and drunk drivers in Thailand could be forced to work in hospital morgues. The country’s cabinet approved the potential punishment last week, ahead of a celebration known for its heavy drinking and traffic accidents. Thousands of road deaths occur in the country every year, and officials hope the community service penalty will serve as a harsh deterrent against repeat road offenses. “They [offenders] should see the actual physical and mental damage,†said Anurak Amornpetchsathaporn, emergency response director at Thailand’s Bureau of Public Health, according to The Associate Press. “In the morgue, they will have to be cleaning up and transporting bodies, so that hopefully they would feel the pain, so that they may understand and attain a good conscience, so that it [they] could be safer on the roads,†he added. Working with corpses is likely to be a more effective punishment than sweeping roads or pruning trees, Probation Department official Nonjit Netpukana told Thai publication The Nation. It is unclear whether the offenders would have to work with the bodies of people who died in accidents with which they were involved. DAMIR SAGOLJ/REUTERS Thai officials believe that the experience of working in hospital morgues could help deter traffic lawbreakers from repeat offenses. Thailand is one of the world’s worst countries when it comes to road deaths, World Health Organization statistics indicate. Thailand reports that over 14,000 people in the country died from road accidents last year, but WHO estimates put the figure closer to 24,000. People across Thailand are preparing to celebrate the annual Songkran festival, a holiday celebrating the Thai New Year, from Wednesday to Friday. Songkran is an alcohol-fueled festival in many parts of the country — last year, the government’s health ministry warned against “alcohol withdrawal“ after it ended. The festivities generally extend past the official three-day public holiday, and are often referred to as the “Seven Dangerous Days†because of the high number of road accidents that take place during this period. During last year’s festival, 364 people died and over 3,500 more were injured. Over 1 million people are expected to leave Bangkok and travel to the country’s provinces for the holiday this year, according to public broadcaster Thai PBS. Nearly 500,000 tourists will also visit Thailand during this period, said the country’s tourism minister, Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul. DAMIR SAGOLJ / REUTERS The new penalty was introduced just before the annual Songkran festival, a weeklong holiday that’s also known as the “Seven Dangerous Days†due to the high number of road accidents that take place during that period. Fifty-two people died and 431 were injured in road accidents on Monday alone, according to official government statistics reported by public broadcaster Thai PBS. Drunk driving accounted for almost 27 percent of those accidents. Thailand is not the first country to come up with unusual laws to prevent road accidents. In Cyprus, anyone who eats or drinks while driving — even if it’s water — is subject to an 85 euro (about $97) fine. And in Switzerland, people who wear glasses or contact lenses must carry an extra pair of spectacles in their vehicles at all time.
  13. Happy 79th birthday to country legend Merle Haggard, whose hits "I'm an Okie from Muskogee" and "The fighting side of me" made him a country star from the 70's on, also died on his birthday. RIP, the Poet of the Common Man.
  14. If it hadn't said that he was a 28 year old man, I would have thought that it was Tiger Woods. It certainly fits his M.O.
  15. Esquire Magazine used to have one issue a year devoted to their "Dubious achievement awards," given to people whose actions or statements just produced mass head scratching. I'd like to award at least two DA awards to one passenger and one air hostess of the Egyptian plane that was hijacked this past week. They both decided that it would be neat to have a selfie taken with the hijacker. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/content/dam/news/2016/03/30/egypt_3603224b-large_trans++pJliwavx4coWFCaEkEsb3kvxIt-lGGWCWqwLa_RXJU8.jpg. http://pbs.twimg.com/media/CevD0ZYWEAA0UTX.jpg

    Apple V Fbi

So much for the public's belief that information on Apple products is 100% safe and can't be retrieved, even by Apple. The moral of the story is; when in doubt, contact the hackers. I hope that the irony isn't lost when the Government has to use criminal hackers to get to their objective.
  18. Shame has nothing to do with it. If the Police won't go after someone that hits, and then drags, a Policeman, and then flees the scene, why would they go after someone that kills civilians with their car?
  19. If you had Cuban citizenship and were a male, you would be entitled to free penis enlargement surgery. As an added bonus, you would also be eligible for transgender surgery.
  20. Frank Sinatra Jr. Has died of a heart attack at age 72.
  21. The above should only be tried with young women. I got a chair smashed over the back of my head, closing one eye for 5 days and having developed a cataract two years later. Pick your battles wisely.
  22. A lot of voters, who have been disenfranchised by politicians sending jobs overseas and corporations for fostering a "me first" mentality (which extends to most politicians (Hillary included), are giving the proverbial finger to both groups by voting for Trump. I hope that they don't believe that Trump is any different, other than his ego.
  23. Mrs. Jones must be about the only person left that was born in the 1800's.
  24. I guess not a "lucky man."
