Old Hippie
Fly has given some excellent info here, so accept it or don't the idea of prophlaxus (SP) medication is in individual choice, not to be taken lightly. I do recall back in my army days, the danger zones for Malaria were in and around standing or stagnant water. I did see people flip out or get extreamely sick for preventative medicines, as well as 2 cases of Malaria, both in Central America, Jungle, near several stagnant ponds or lakes, coupled with very poor hygene malnutrition etc... Bottom line, it all depends on the strain you contract and your body's ability to handle the medications. As for using Doxycyline for std prevention...FORGET IT!!!! You are asking for trouble in a big way, on severel fronts. You are better off to use condoms and failing that, seek medical attention at the first sign of trouble!
