rovineye
Reservations required? I never did find a # for them.
Guest
Guys, thanks for the tips about Sirocco. I just packed a jacket. As for the passport, I'll continue to only carry a copy. If any cop insists on seeing the real thing he can escort me to the hotel. I suspect that this 'law' is only ever enforced to detain suspects in some larger crime or possible overstayers. pattaya127
Pickpocket thieves are common ------------------------ yep, but that's no mugging, and i wonder if a pickpocket takes time to choose which item to take, passport or wallet. I doubt there would be more pickpocketing (which are common already, IYO) because tourists are told to carry their passport.
Nervous_Dog
You actually dont need to carry a passport with you by the thai law, it is written that you can produce if asled to, which has be interperupted by the law as being in your hotel safe. You have I think more than a few hours to produce it. That said, in case of accidents etc, it is VERY wise to keep a photocopy on your person. lembeh
I always laugh when seeing this: >If any cop insists on seeing the real thing he can escort me to the hotel. yes. or, and *please* try to understand this, he could throw you ass in jail/IDC until *you* arrange for your passport to be delivered *to him*!!!! -j-
Oldtimer
As it is the law that all farangs carry a passport at all times, one does so these days. Even on the beach! During Songkhan one wraps the passport in plastic. If the passport gets lost, I have another (isssued by my country of birth) at home. It won't have a recent visa stamp on it, but nevertheless should be good enough to get me out of the kingdom or at least grant one the time to get a replacement issued by our embassy. By the way, in view of the terrorism going on these days, it makes good common sense for everyone to carry photo ID. The Thais do it, so I see no reason why we shouldn't. I don't even know where to start with this bag of advice. No departure card and no visa stamp and no entry of that passport number in the computer? Naw..That won't raise any flags. And how will that buy you time time when what they really want to see is the visa stamp to see if you are over staying. Yeah, maybe ONE brings their passport to the beach (for those dreaded beach raids) but not more than one I bet. I am in agreement with Jimmie Blonde. Mine stays in the safe until there is more than anecdotal evidence of a different need. Yes I will have copies with visa stamp. Not in agreement with any citing of law here, since the next Thai law that is clear will be the first Thai law that is clear.

Guest
"Bed" has been put on notice. They are watched, and have been given 'rules', which they must abide by. They do not have a say in this. My source is good. HT
