Would the board survive a loss of nightlife?

... and I would agree with that wholeheartedly.

I was looking at the registered user list, that there are just a huge number of handles that I have never seen a post from. I don't know what the total number of users is, but I'm sure it's well into the thousands. So yes, I know there are a lot of users that are not currently sanuking, but of the many thousands reading this board, I THINK they are a small minority. I could be wrong.

Rompy,

Is that not the same as in real life ??? :D

Its a melting pot, we even have a few Thai ladies reading and posting here......

jxxxl,

Indeed, about 8000 registered users, point is you need to register to post, not to read.

Also users forget their password and re-register under a new handle.

Plus guys who look here once a year when they prepare their trip.

I would guess about 300+ active members, probably top 100 to make 80+ % of all postings.

Not a good thing IMO.

Lets ask our resident statistics specialist - elef - to see what he can come up with.....

I found this info :

Total # of topics 21669

Total # of replies 269413

I thought I read something KS posted where he said he has no way of knowing who reads the board, he only knows login statistics and posting. Now, I don't want to presume I know the way KS runs the business of the board, but knowing who reads what would be hugely beneficial to advertising sales.

I know people hate being defined as a type, and some people go to extreme lengths to disassociate themselvs from the P4P patrons. But, in terms discussing the future of the board and any kind of ad sales, users do fall into types. And, my theory is that most users, in terms of quantity, not useage, are here for the nightlife info.

Indeed, about 8000 registered users

Statistics can be found on the bottom on the forums list page, and it said 5,003 one moment ago.

Browsing thorough the users list I could see that only 2,000 members ever made a post (1 or more).

The top 25 posters are responsible for about 35 % of the total posts. And no, I am not one of them. I do not suffer from CPD (Compulsive Posting Disorder). :D

Cheers,

Hi,

"Are such statistics accesible to all of us?"

Some, there are some at the bottom of the main index page, and you can find some more in your My Home (your stats only in there).

Membership base, yes every now and then I delete a bunch, mainly accounts that have 0 posts and have not logged in for a long time (1 year or so).

These stats might help a bit as well:

Users that have logged in the past 24 hours 189

Users that have logged in the past 7 days 503

Users that have logged in the past month 825

Unfortunately no idea of how many people read only, but do not log in (i.e. guests). Looking at the Who's Online, I would guess it would roughly double the above numbers.

As for knowing which sections are read, I can find out a little, but not really any definitive stats.

Sanuk!
