pattaya127
What is your excuse? ------------------------------- born from french parents and residing in Paris for the first quarter century of my life, save a few months here and there. This discussion reminds me to renw the stamp on my french passport, BTW. Thanks! ::
pattaya127
Hey, didn't you lose Vietnam just as badly? -------------------------------------------- true, but that loss has now become a footnote to the trauma and cost (human and political) of the US war in Vietnam, which are what people will always refer to, when the words Vietnam and war (often, "Vietnam" alone does) are brought up. Iraq/k hasn't been the catastrophe that France predicted either. ----------------------------------------- The argument was about US going it alone and hastily. Hard predictions on Irak have come from all corners, and the loudest voices were coming from the US itself. It makes sense, since it's the american people who paid for it, in cash and blood. Bkkbound04
Its easy if everyone understands British Foreign policy as expounded by that great civil servant Sir Humphrey 'The Foreign Office is pro-europe because it is really anti-Europe. In fact the Civil Service was united in its desire to make sure the Common Market did'nt work. Thats why we went in to it. Britain has had the same foreign policy for at least the last five hundred years - to create a disunited Europe. In that cause we have fought with the Dutch against the Spanish, with the Germans against the French, with the French and Italians against the Germans and with the French against the Italians and the Germans. In other words divide and rule. And the Foreign office can see no reason to change when it has worked so well until now. To break up the EEC we had to get inside. We had previously tried to brak it up but that failed(EFTA 1960). Now we're in, we're able to make a complete pigs breakfast out of it. We have set the Germans against the French, the french against the Italians, the Italians against the Dutch... and the Foreign Office is terribly happy. Its just like old times.' When asked why are we pushing to increase its membership? replied ' Its just like the United Nations. The more members it has, the more arguements you can stir up, and the more futile and impotent it becomes.' The diaries of a cabinet minister James Hacker 1981 JP

sayjann
couldn't be bothered to read the whole thread, but i knew what LP was talking about in his original post. fuck the French(no offence to our French Members)but the English and French have been at war for Centuries and that will never change. guns and bullets were the choice of weapon in the past, but now words because we are suppossed to be civilised. seems that Chirac can shoot himself in the foot when you look at the voting for the Olympics. but remind me to take a holiday in August 2012,no way do i want to anywhere near London at that time.........
