Patpong and Washington

Maybe I'm getting old, but over the years I have come to dislike Nana (nothing but noisy GoGo bars with what appear to be underage girls) and to tolerate Cowboy (in too many bars now you walk in, sit down and immediately get pounced on by 6 girls all demanding lady drinks and then pissing off if you don't comply in about 30 seconds).

On the other hand I find myself spending much more time in the likes of Patpong and Washington Square.

Patpong 1 has some decent GoGo bars (OK the girls aren't the prettiest) which play decent, mainly rock, music such as Goldfingers, Superstar and Safari and plenty of places where you can get the single barrell pump action yoghurt rifle serviced!

Patpong 2 has some civilized bars such as Cosmos, The Crown Royal and The Executive Bar, which may be a bit staid for some, but have some nice lassies to talk to. Then there are some good places for a bite to eat such as Le Bouchon and The French Kiss and plenty of beer bars to watch the footie on a Saturday night with one eye on the telly and the other eye on the world passing by and The Tavern for a quiet game of darts. It's also handy for a couple of Irish bars if you fancy a pint of Guiness. OK there's no GoGo but there is plenty of variety.

Then there's Washington Square, which may be a bit of a dump (and may be gone altogether before too long) but the few bars that it does have are good fun. The girls may not be the best looking (understatement) but they are willing to please and a BJ at the bar isn't out of the question. Also The Dubliner on the corner is a good place for a bite to eat and a read of the Bnk Post before heading out for the afternoon.

To me Bangkok nightlife isn't just about GoGo bars, there are plenty of decent places to go (without going upmarket) where there's good company and fun to be had without the noise, the flashing lights, the prepubescent puyings and the conveyor belt of cola requests.

Just my thoughts.

I totally agree with you, very nice opinion you provide here.

IMHO (this is my opinion so please no flames)

@The_Munchmaster

About washington square, do you have some more info please?

I go sometimes to eat to the dubliner or bourbon street, I venture to the angel massage and to B52.

Do you know other "nightlife" venues there please?

Nana tends to become like a common tourist place, high prices, bad service, not many "gems".

I found myself to go to Patpong recently (not king's group bars though, each one his own style), especially the lounge bars, similar in "concept" to soi33 but less expensive and maybe more relaxed?

Anyway as I previously stated I am more and more out of P4P.

@Torneyboy

I did not say that king's group bars were bad or any other negative comments, sorry if it sounded like this, I simply said that I did not like them. (I like less gogo bars, that is just that)

I admit that they can have "stunners", just not my trip anymore.

Cheers

If you exit The Dubliner by the back door, turn left and walk straight ahead you will hit the Silver Dollar a small bar owned by Ned. It's cheap and the girls are fun. There's one lass who used to sit beside me at the bar, lift her skirt up, pull her panties to the side and frig herself, time after time. Eventually when she saw me come in to the bar she would go straight to the toilet and remove her panties before sitting with me. She ignored me the last couple of times I was in so not sure what happened there. Probably marginally better in the evening than the afternoon but not much in it.

Coming out of The Silver Dollar turn left again and there are three other bars on the same side of the street. Two I know, one I don't. The first one is The Texas Lonestar, which is big, has very uncomfortable barstools and apparently a bit of a reutation for padding bills, however never had that problem myself. Girls are fun but definitely an afternoon bar. In fact WS is generally more of an afternoon / early evening venue than a night time venue or am I saying that because I always go in the afternoon or very early evening at the latest?

The next bar I don't know but right next to it is Wild Country. Again a small bar but the girls are friendly and a BJ at the bar is possible (Teddy had one last time I was in). I sat down at one of the tables for mine. The girls do become quite quick at reordering their drinks during this so a fairly large bill can mount up quite quickly. I've no doubt you can slow the lady drinks down if you have an issue with it though.

Round the corner from Wild Country is Bourbon Street, the Prince of Wales, I think the old Hare and Hound from Cowboy? and Square One, which is run by a mad Englishman, but I don't go into any of them.

There are a few other bits and pieces but generally that's the Square in a nutshell. Not much to it but a good time can usually be had.

Enjoy.

P.S. You mentioned B52, which is across from WS at the entrance to the Regency Park Hotel. However there is another bar on the other side of the hotel entrance which has a few friendly, and if my memory serves me well, quite sexy things in it (dressed in Leopard print outfits).

@ Munchmaster

and all the other guys who are looking for alternative sanuk places.

The Washington Square is not a normal place like the many others in Bkk. This place breathes history. The interior of the bars flavours of bygone times .... The Silver Dollar, The Texas Lone Staar (yes, Staar), The Wild Country Bar, The Prince of Wales etc. We are sitting on the stools of the history and we are feeling salvaged and indulging in reminiscences. In one word: The Washington Square is a restaging. And especially I like the girls. Some of them are real gems: no bad attitude, some are very nice, and they are all not expensive.

But: Final Countdown: Days of Washington Square Numbered

I read with fright and horror that in some years Washington Square will not exist any more. All my beloved bars will be gone and faded away. An awe-inspiring association.

Some say that the bars are dull and boring; that they are literally dead. But in my opinion that is nonsense. You can meet the "Squaronians" there like "Mekhong Kurt", the master of the Squaronians and webmaster of the www.bangkokatoz.com website. And Richard, the painter and all the others, mostly older Americans drinking away their pensions ?

And sometimes you can meet Mr. Moore himself ? author of the Vincent Calvino Private Eye series and other novels like "A killing smile".

And then there are the girls: Oh, I start dreaming and indulging in reminiscences.

So, when there are not so many guests you have the girls for yourself!

That is another reason, why I love Washington Square.

The rainy season in Bangkok reminds me of an old classical immortal song of the one and only Harry Belafonte:

[color:"blue"]Try to remember the kind of September

When life was slow and oh

so mellow.

Try to remember when life was so tender

When noone wept except the willow.

[color:"blue"]The New Square One Pub at the Washington Square.

Take a motocycle taxi to Sukumvhit Soi 22. Go into the Soi 22 about 150 m. After 150 m there is on the left side the entrance to the Washington Square. On the right hand you find this special bar. The New Square One Pub is a very good bar for day time fun.

They have many pretty girls who work in two shifts: day time shift from 10 am to 6 pm and the night shift from 6 pm to 1 or 2 am in the night. Best time to go there is during noonday and in the afternoon.

They have a billiard table where you can play billiards with the girls. That is always great fun. Go and enjoy yourself. The girls of this bar are always fun.

And they are not expensive: 1000 Baht LT. They offer a very good service. When you are not satisfied with one of the girls you can go to the boss of this bar Khun Taffy ? a Welshman ? and you can make your complaint. But that is never necessary. All the girls have a good attitude. Oh, my goodness, they are so sweet creatures ?

The other bars of the Washington Square are fun too:

The Silver Dollar, The Texas Lone Staar, The Wild Country Bar etc?

I had some girls from the Washington Square; [color:"blue"]LT 1000 Baht and fantastic girlfriend experience.

PS: Sorry for my melancholy. For about 5 weeks we did not see a sunbeam here in Hamburg; only thick grey clouds and rain and melancholy is overwhelming me. We have a very bad summer this year which shatters my mind.

Greetings

Charly

I have not been to Patpong in ages, but I read in another thread here that the bars Patpong close at 2 am as opposed to the 1-ish closing times in NEP. Can anyone else confirm?

Also, does anyone know if the discos, places such as Lucifiers, stay open after 2 am?

Patpong was supposed to one of the entertainment zones.

I agree with your choices of bars in Pat 1&2. I particularly like the hostess style a la Crown Royal and Executive Club. For some grub on Phatphong 2, Try the throwback Thai Room just down from Pink Panther. Goes back to the 'Nam days. Half decent vittles, inexpensive, and an eclectic menu. Get a window seat to watch the parade of bgs and punters. I reckon so.
