HH Given the devaluation of the baht and yearly inflation, it seems then that drink prices have increased slightly- but sex might cost even less now! Guest
I have fond reminiscenses of Bangkok before mobiles and even the Internet. That said, my favorite period is always TODAY, be it now, tomorrow, or 20 years from now.

Maybe, given that your "given" (that make sense? ) is probably correct. But the sex then was definitely better IMO. As noted by another poster, condoms were not the order of the day, a GFE was 98% assured, the girls were more respectful (dressed nicer, would sometimes even refuse more than a couple of lady drinks, waied upon being given a "purple" in the morning, etc.) And, ol Hugh's plumbing worked better then too. Only exception to the better sex part was that fewer girls, in my experience, were into giving oral. Overall, I think the years 1997-2000 were best. Not much has improved since, except for the skytrain. HH
-.-.-
The politeness has gone way, way down for sure. EVERY girl used to wai when bought a drink and there was generallly never a discussion of money as there was a mutual trust. It is still great now and will probably continue to be great, although different somewhat, in the future. The main thing that I think is now different than in years past is that the family pressure on the girls is higher than before. It is, I am told, no longer "go to BKK and get us out of this problem", but, rather, "go to BKK and marry a falang".

I am pretty sure that goes back to before 1994. I think Trink wrote about it in his book, and I think he was describing stuff that went on in the 60s. None of the gals there are nice, polite, etc. This is so evident if you are a Thai speaker and/or an old hand know the score. And knowing how they should act (and I am sure, do act, in other situations), that just pisses me off and I cannot enjoy myself. I do not tolerate dierespect very well, unless *I* do something to deserve it. I certainly take pains to show respect to others until they no longer deserve it. Washington Square, Cowboy and even Soi 33 are *much* better in this regard and therefore more enjoyable to me. Cheers, SD

Guest
Not him perse, but ratehr a former sub-editro at the Post, some Ausie girl, now deceased. Trink would not cooperate, so she filled it up largely with selected gleanings from his columns over the years and a couple or so interviews with people who knew him. A good overview of his life, really. Learned when he came to Thailand, circumstances of him meeting his wife, his time in Japan. The Klong Toey bit was indeed back in HIS early days, long gone.
