Spam. I hate the word. Targeting a suitable demographic with a relavent advertisment is not spam, it is just good old fashioned advertising. KS, if you set clear parameters, it would not be seen as spam. For example;

 

1. Rent on a cost per thousand basis, and broadcast the emails yourself. Do not sell the emails, just rent them out.

 

2. Limit the amount of broadcasts to fixed amount each month. Say, no more than 3 per month, one every ten days.

 

3. Keep the content relavent. If the advertiser can offer a product that would benefit and/or crteate an interest, who would complain? For example... the condoms brand you mentioned - an email advertising there product is relavent to most people who use NP. However, If a company aproaches you wishing to rent the emails for 'a competition, everyone is a winner' etc, you simply tell them to fuck off. If the Landmark hotel wishes to use your email base to advertise 3 nights for the price of 2, you welcome them as it is benficial to your members.

 

If you stick to these boundries, you are not a 'spammer'.

Look again. There are at least 10 very reputable affiliate networks globaly who will do all the hard work for you, find suitable advertisers on a cost per click and manage all the reporting. You simply supply the demographic and volume, they do the rest.... and pay you. Start with this; www.a4uforum.co.uk introduce yourself and the guys on the forum will nod you in the right direction.

It would take an hour. Just use the hot topics on the various forums here as content. For example, any posting that is a hot topic in any section could be used as a header. You simply knock up a basic email with the header 'foreigners not able to buy land in Thailand' 'click here to read the pro's and con's' or 'Swedish man jumps from hotel room in PTY'... etc etc. You simply use the content provided by the members as a newsletter. Then, you charge bodygauardcondom.com a couple thousand baht per thousand emails for a link on the newsleter. Do the same with 3 other advertisers, and you could be looking at 8000B per thou emails. If you send out one newsletter a week to 1000 members, you have an extra 32000B per month in revenue. Pie in the sky figures wise, but I'll bet i am not far off? How many members do you have? I'll bet it's more than 1000.

 

Also, with a newsletter, you will increase traffic. Incative members who have not used NP for a long time may read a headline, follow the link and post.... and then once again form the habit of using NP.com frequently, thus increasing your traffic.

I'll donate a few quid, no problem. Value for money, as i see things. It wont be very much but I am more than happy to chuck a couple thousand baht once in a while. How do you donate?

 

having said this, KS you should get up off your arse and get more aggressive with this site! Push it man! 100,000 unique's per month and you cant make money? Seems to me you are too nice a guy. The whole 'spam' thing speaks volumes... nothing wrong with commerce buddy!

As for the amount, there have been 2 people so far who have donated more than you (twice as much to be honest). The amount to me is not the most important though, just the fact that someone cared enough to donate is good enough for me.

Yeah, probably, but it just isn't me. I do not like selling / promoting. Not cut out for it. I'm a techie, I program crap, I do not sell it.

However I am far too irresponsible to be relied upon for traffic/revenue generation! I would wage a bet that there are quite a few guys here on this board who are experts in new media marketing though, far more than me.

 

Seriously though, from a marketing point of view, this site could be gold dust.

 

Ok, fuck it....I will put my arse on the line; If KS is willing to punt out emails a couple of times a month to members, I will knock out the advertising space for him, finding suitable advertisers relevant to NP.com as mentioned earlier. Whatever he charges per thousand, I'll stick 20/25% on top. That 20/25% will go into a slush fund that KS is responsible for, and then once a month we have a free piss up at Gulliver?s.

God I hate spammers. I just had to change my ISP to avoid the bastards. When I joined the board I did not sign up to receive unsolicited commercial email which some asshole thinks is relevant to me, but which wastes my time and money. KS, I'm trusting you have higher ethics than this. Or should I set my email address to nospam@nowhere.org

While I personally can't give you $10K there's this exiled finance minister from Nigera that's looking to unload profits from a dimond mine (or was it a sugar plantation?). Anyhow, I think he wants to split like $5 million with me. Let me know if you want in on it!
