steffi
You know those cheap tables you can buy from Ikea.. ie. tabletop and legs and you just screw them together. Usually the tabletop is particle board but I've seen people using these effectively as computer desks. It's just that Ikea charges you more than that cost of the table/legs just to ship the darn thing.
Nervous_Dog
After a few bottles of beer the board swells up and breaks. The better the quality the slower it happens, but it does eventually happen. In Krabi I have seen school tables warp beautifully do you to just humidity. bust
No shortage of teak around in LOS. Even something second-hand is going to last you a hell of a lot longer than IKEA.
liquidflux
Just curious why you'd want something shipped from Ikea? There's got to be loads of places around Bangkok that have something similar.
samak
wonder why Ikea is not in thailand. have seen them in china, malaysia and if i remember correctly in singapore!
unit731
If not teak, then get metal or plastic. My cordless optical mouse wore a hole in my particle board computer decktop. Never mind the water leaking from the upstairs flat WC.

Guest
I bought some furniture from a local Ikea in Canada. If it is something one will eat off of, sleep off of, sit on or anything short of just look at.....Cavate Emptor {I think that's buyer beware}. It is good for a short term fix until one has sufficent funds to buy "qauality" items. Cheers Shiro
Bangkoktraveler
Stop at a place nrth east of Bangkok that manufactures furniture. They had teak, what looked like rosewood and particle board furniture. That evening, I saw their truck loaded with furniture heading for Bangkok loaded with particle board shit. Even though teak cost more, but not that much more, Thais seem to buy the cheaper particle board shit just like almost everybody else.
