It would be a Catholic school, since they are the ones with the money to hire qualified paedophiles. :(

Man confesses???

Watched the live news conference in Bangkok which aired here in Hawaii about 2100 our time and was shown live on both CNN, and FOX, as they made that announcement in Bangkok.

Many of the reporters kept asking leading questions about his "lifestyle" while in Bangkok, the Immigration Police Chief kept saying he appeared to be a normal tourist, doing nothing wrong, then added to the reporter asking the question - "he looked just like you" (bringing many laughs from the room).

On the tube the perp looked very thin and sickly, a little weird looking IMHO.

I think there is some confusion as to whether he was an ex-pat here working as a teacher or was he one of these long-term tourists who works as a teacher though not legally?

Some news media is saying he was just a tourist in thailand meaning he was not applying his professional trade..

I wonder what the real story is...

To reference above, a paedi and a child killer is not necessarily the same. I would guess completely different profiles with exceptions...

What a bizarro press conference, even for Thailand. Thank God they didn't make him 'recreate' the crime.

There was a caucasian male wearing a garish flowered shirt who seemed to be accompanying Karr during the press conference. At one point, as a Thai police officer seemed to shove Karr into a chair in front of the hovering photographers, Mr. Flower Shirt actually wedged his arm between the Thai policemen and Karr. My guess is Flower shirt was an American law enforcement or embassy official.

Such strange stories coming out about the 'confession' and arrest. The Thai Immigration head (Suwat) was quoted in the MSNBC article that Karr:

"insisted his crime was not first-degree murder but that JonBenet died during a kidnapping attempt that went awry. He said it was second-degree murder. He said it was unintentional,â? Suwat said. He said Karr told Thai interrogators that he picked JonBenet up at her school and brought her to the familyâ??s basement. He said he loved this child, that he was in love her. He said she was very pretty, a pageant queen. She was the school star, she was very cute and sweet,â? Suwat said."

It doesn't seem likely that Karr would have picked the 6 year old child up from school and brought her home Christmas Day (when schools are closed!) and her parents, who checked on her before they went to bed that evening, would not know.

Maybe a translation issue? However, many strange things about this case, including the detailed ransom note, mother's behaviour after the murder, and both Karr's and the University professor's fascination with this case.

The only crime Karr seems to have been charged with in the US is possession of child porn on his computer, and failure to appear at a court hearing related to this charge.

The Thai police are quoted as saying they are not aware of him committing crimes in Thailand, though the press seems committed to portraying Karr as just another sex tourist coming to Thailand to abuse children.

Interesting that one of our board members confirms he had a teaching position in Bangkok. The Thai police were quoted as saying he was applying for teaching positions in Bangkok. Of course, he could have been teaching and searching for better jobs at the same time.

I think lots more to this story as facts emerge, and speculation is washed away.

Not to trivialize this but the Flower Shirt was definitely an interesting sidebar. I can imagine the LEO deciding what to wear for the press conference. Flourescent LEA jacket? Nah too flashy. T shirt? Too casual. Flak jacket? Nah. Go with something relaxed and tropical.
