Old Hippie
Cav, That sounds about right. Also, the inability to stop drinking, as opposed to amount/frequency drunk.
buddha
I find that I have cravings when I try to stop. They last for about 3 weeks. Once I have 3 weeks its as if I never drank. I think alcohol is a social crutch for me, I use it to ease into the scene. When I am dry, like I am right now within the first 3 weeks, I feel uncomfortable in a bar setting. In a week I will be ok, drinking water and not craving the booze.
Old Hippie
for me the cravings have not stopped, and will not...hypnosis seems to have helped. I have a ton of booze in my apartment, and no desire to drink it.
cavanami
I am 1/2 Irish and 1/2 german, so I drink like hell and have a hard head I see it as 90% mental, keeping busy and no time to think about drinking. Being Irish, I have seen a bit a drinking in the family! but for me, I can take it or leave it. I like a good red wine or beer or vodka tonic, but it is something that adds to the moment, it does not make the moment...besides, a lovely Thai lady, totally captures all my attention
mazoun
If you do not have the craving when you are at work, I doubt you should consider yourself a alcoholic, but you could be close to the edge !
