The_Munchmaster
I like zoos. Is Bangkok zoo any good?
Old Hippie
Not really. A nice walk around, and fresh air, but as far as zoos go, pretty lame...worth a look, and more less a short walk around the corner from Vimanmek (really worth a look!) and cheap enough. khunsanuk
Hi, Agree with OH. It's okay, but nothing special. Much better than 10 years ago though when I first visited. The zoo in Chiang Mai is quite nice though (or at least it was 8 years ago when I was there). OH, where's the Vimanmek Palace? Never been there. Sanuk! Nervous_Dog
I go regularly with the kids who love it, nothing like Singapore etc, but not bad and very cheap. Weird looking Girrafe penises DOG

Old Hippie
"...OH, where's the Vimanmek Palace? Never been there..." It is the teak Palace, home of Rama V, literally right around the corner (well sort of from the zoo...if I recall, exiting the main entrance of the zoo, go right, make a left, walk a short distance and you are there...it is a big sprauling place, with at least 2 entrances... Page 160 of my Lonely planet says "...bus #70, 72 and 510 will drop you at the U-Thong Nai Th. Si Ayuthaya and Th. Ratwithi respectively...02 628 6300...09:30-15:15...admission 100B (??)..." It is on the Dusit Palace grounds, sort of...has a lot to see, so plan on a long time there...also has an Elephant Museum and Royal Throne hall and other stuff When I last went, there was a collection of photos taken by HMS. The King in one of the side buildings, HMS. was/is good with that Nikon of his! I recomend calling ahead, as it is closed on some holidays...SSG and I went on New years day, and it was closed, oddly, the zoo was open, so we walked over there... As I recall the King's Photos were in this building... Sorry for the crap photos...

exit2dos
They have big lizards swimming around in the waterways. They might be monitor lizards. I saw one about 8 feet long. We were in a paddle boat and my girl was yelling "animal, animal." Unlike most western zoos, I think you are encouraged to feed the animals.
