US sex tour operator convicted

Federal agents said he arranged for tourists to have sex with girls as young as 12. Many of the girls were kept padlocked in cells unless they were having sex, according to court documents.

And why aren't they trying to help those poor girls who are locked in cages? The story is hard to believe, to say the least.

"Intent" can be very difficult to prove in some instances. The small amount of info given in most news articles is severly lacking if one desires to come to any conclusion. Even this article. No doubt there were many emails back and forth, perhaps telephone contacts that were probably recorded, and personal contacts that were probably recorded. The news article info certainly gives enough "wiggle-room", but it is very much deficient in providing any of us with an inkling of guilt or innocence. The fact that the defendant pled guilty says that he did what he was charged with.

Got to agree. If a USA citizen goes up against the USA government, the USA government can pulverize the individual if they want to just by its unlimited resources which also includes money.

Think about it. A person is charged by providing directions to an underage whorehouse for money in a third world country. Are any of the whores brought forth to testify against him? No. Are documents produced that supports the belief the whores were underaged? No.

What is produced is probably questionable but if a government agent says you did it, you did it. Sad but true.

Now in the USA, if you plead guilty, you can cut a deal for a lesser sentence. Cutting a deal doesn't mean you 'really' are guilty but may be more indicative that the person may have took the 'easy' way out of the situation.

Not sure that is always a given in the American legal system (at least as I understand it).

What all to often happens here is they stack the charges against you, which makes a defense difficult and expensive. Some high profile groups may come to your aide, but you are dead when convicted. So what happens is, a deal is offered, a lesser charge, lesser time for your guilty plea, many take these deals as it is seen as a faster way to end it all, and move on...

Example, a guy I know was busted with felony weight coke, with *Intent* to traffic. He was looking at maybe 20-30 years...he pled guilty to possession and got 5, served about 18 months, still claims it wasn't his, but couldn't take the risk...

In the pedo cases, they keep records of the chats, the calls and basically having the guy agree to meet for sex, full well knowing the "kid" is underage. Even if the whole thing is a set up, they still have a guy willfully believing he is going to meet a minor for sex, and this is illegal. Drug stings work in a similar manner as do prostitution stings.

Like I said, not enough info here to know how it went down. Suggest that if somebody really wants to know, they file an FOI request with ICE and get a copy of the case reports and get copies of the court filings, and get copies of the extradition papers. It should be all there for anybody to read. And yes, sometimes a plea to a "lesser" charge is accepted rather than go to trial on all counts. Lots of things are considered, not the least of which is the cost and trouble to get foreign witnesses to the States to testify. Just trying to think how this guy's plea would be "lesser" of what? Mopry with intent to creep?
