David99UK
Just wondering....... I guess as "Airport" is always understood by the Taxi Drivers......without an easier name to say than Sujjlgbkjsfpwdip......it is a case of making sure they do understand "New" and "International"?? Neo
The name of the airport is ridiculous; the most ridiculous I know of in the world. Unless you have heard it verbally, you have no chance of pronouncing it. I'll wager even the phonetic spelling here will be badly butchered by most people and unintelligible to some cabbies. And notice how the phonetic spellings here have almost no resemblance to the official spelling of Suvarnabhumi!!! And let's not even start with tone charts. And with two airports, you can't just say "airport" anymore. There are too many syllables, and each of them are strange to most people making it virtually impossible to remember. Don Muang at least kept it short and the first syllable was easy for most people. I have no idea how such an inappropriate name was chosen. Your best bet is to say "airport" and print the name in english & thai on a piece of paper. This seems such an avoidable debacle, but so were so many things about that airport. elef
Don't say that to thais or you may end in prison for lese majeste as it's the HM the King himself who gave the new airport the lucky name instead of the Cobra (or Snake) Swamp.
