I ran into him that night in Nana Plaza and thought he didn't look all that healthy. He's about 76 now and presumably retired. I saw him within the last year buying DVD's on a street stall in Silom, so he still needs to go out for that. He looked in ok shape for his age. Ironic that someone who made his living writing about bars and hookers was more or less faithful to his wife ... well, except in the '70s when he used to get freebies at a massage parlour and describe in code what had gone on. Finally the newspaper made him put a stop to that. His daughter must be in her 30s now. His son died of leukemia at about 17. Must have hit Trink hard, since he used to take Rickie out with him on his bar excursions. Trink is complicated. He's nice as can be in person, would do anything for you. He'd really ballooned, maybe in response to the crap he was getting from the new politically correct regime at the Bangkok Post. In the old days the editors had more or less let him alone.
