I'll bet you that it gets nominated for at least 2 awards and wins 1. Loser pays 2000 baht donation to Thai360.

Steve
I've been doing a lot of reading about these guys. I was shocked at the amount of money they were making in those days. Even if you discount inflation, it would be loads of money nowadays. The one guy I've heard of from early on was Nicky Barnes. It was estimated that guys like Barnes, Lucas and others made tens of millions of dollars. Astonishing. There was another guy in that time named Frank Matthews who was indicted in '73 I think and he skipped bail with his girlfriend and fled with an estimated 20 to 30 million dollars. Still hasn't been found to this day. He got his from south america and knew his way around overseas. There is a TV series on BET here called American Gangster as well and it chronicles all these guys. My fave was a guy named Melvin Williams who was the drug kingpin for Baltimore and worked with an associate of Meyer Lansky to get his drugs. He is who the tv series The Wire is based on. He was a former gambler and was making as much as 100k as a teenager in the '50s! Astonishing. He had an 160 IQ. Always kept his word. Never snitched or anything even doing a couple terms in prison. I was the only one on this board to correctly predict that Crash would win the Oscar for Best Picture last year. I'm out of your league.

sayjann
i know nothing about this film or who Frank Lucas is. but i listened to an interview with his Daughter last Night, very interesting and it gave me an insight into the film. she said the family were put into witness protection and sent to Puerto Rico. but her mother got pissed off and took the whole family back to the US. they still have a contract on their lives but the Daughter said that they got on with their lives and if they died then so be it. she was quite happy to meet a reporter in a Manhattan restaurant and be recorded. but she is a little pissed about the film. she says she has been air-brushed out of history. she was present at some of the scenes in the film but the makers just ignored her prescence. and she said that Washington was nothing like her Father,he was too genial. is this film like Goodfellas or casino?. carew66
Saw it last night. Heartwarming. Much better that a black gangster floods the streets with smack than that nasty mafia.
