Alfmaz
Hi All In all the years to Thailand, I have avoided going to Khao San Road in Bangkok, But I need to meet some friends from overseas next year, can I get the Subway or BTS from Sukumvit to Khao San Road or near there. Thanks
MooNoi
Best way is to get the BTS to the end of the line at Saphan Taksin and then get a river boat up to Banglamphu from there. Forget the subway, unless you get it to Hualamphong and then a number 53 bus. Other buses go from Hualamphong to Banglamphu but the 53 was the one I used to get. (Non air-con though). Or get BTS to National Stadium (MBK) and get a cab from there.
Stickman
I think the easiest way is to take the skytrain to either National Stadium or Rachatewi and from there jump in a taxi to go the rest of the way.
CTO
I always Tuk Tuk it, do the trip about once every 6 weeks in the evening so the family can see "White People". Oddly one of the few Tuk Tuk trips that don't try to rip me off.
Ed Zeppelin
I go there fairly regularly by bus from Sukhumvit. Take the 511 orange air-con bus. I'm not sure how long the journey would take in daytime traffic, but I usually catch it at about 7pm on Saturdays and the journey takes about one hour. You get off the bus on Ratchadamnoen Avenue after you cross the rounderbout with the large art-deco Democracy Monument. Then just cross the road and you'll be at Khao San. I personally quite like it there as it makes a change from Sukhumvit. There's some good cheap Israeli food around the back.
colorwolf
a faster and more interesting option: 1. take subway to hualampong 2. take train to nakhon pathom 3. walk around the huge stupa 4. take train back, NOT to hualampong, but thonburi station 5. take boat to phra arthit pier 6. walk to khao san 7. kick a backpacker (optional)
Mekong
Fastest Option is jump in the car and drive there.
Lusty
Most of the backpackers I see in this area are not what I call real backpackers but "trustfund" kids who are on their first trip away from home without Mummy and Daddy pretending to be backpackers.
