I am close to retiring age, and highly respected in my field of journalism where I am arguably one of the top 10 specialists in the world.

...

The appeal of the nightlife in Thailand, while sordid in other countries, has long been regarded as a fun thing here. But that has always been skin-deep and like so many things in the Land Of False Smiles an illusion, and increasing the squalid underbelly is being exposed.

overall an entertaining anecdote, but you're definitely not in any top-10 when it comes to grammar or making sense...just try reading the last para...

are you perhaps this retiree who's also rather full of himself as well as a terrible hack?

Well it's an odd first post, but there have been several such incidents of late, some reported here, some not. I'd certainly be pissed if this happened to me. At the very least I'd let people know about it...and this doesn't reflect badly on the bar so much, as it's more about a crazy mamasan. Lets be honest, there's plenty of strange types in these joints. Some who work there, some who frequent them.

On the flip-side, it seems the great unwashed deviant cliques that exist in LOS amongst the farang fraternity like to look out for each other...there sure are some highly unpleasant types owning/running the bars. Personally i stay well away from all this sordidness.

If you visit such places, i guess you should expect to run into trouble or oddities, from time to time.

Pretty good summary of the situation there Faustian. Some of those mamasans are bitter crazy old bitches. There is usually a bunch of Thai guys not too far away itching to kick the shit out of a farang. Sorry Whiskers, Windmill might cool it for a while but I don't think your complaint will do much to stop it happening again elsewhere.

The phrase "highly respected in my field of journalism where I am arguably one of the top 10 specialists in the world" makes this guy sound like a total tosser, as does his conduct in the bar. The dancer is entitled to move tables if she wants. The only surprising thing is that she tolerated him for so long. The OP says he approached the dancer's new table, where presumably she was with another customer. He shouldn't have done that. If I was drinking with a girl and some guy came up to my table uninvited and started making a scene I would think he was a total tosser and would suggest he get lost. There were ways of dealing with the issues and none of the things the OP did were appropriate. Getting in the face of other customers and members of staff will get you a slap by bouncers in any nightclub in any country in the world. I have no sympathy for this guy.
