Dumsoda
LOL Glad about that.. So...associate...rather than relation!!! Now I understand. Was just a tad concerned that you might contemplate something irrational.... Best piece of advice I can offer, is to quote the words of a smart Thai (female "acquaintance")... ...Teerak....pretend forget..... Cheers (Not so) DC

Old Hippie
Nope 1K/month for and a few bottle of whisky... Negotiating and being polite helps (as well as having a police general in your relations) How is it everyone here seems to know police generals and high ranking officials, who will spring out like superman when needed? Through my various "connections" in the muay Thai world, and other contacts, I know maybe 5-7 Police generals, some Army brass and other top guys (SOme guys here know who I mean), all of whom I am 100% sure would tell me to go fuck myself if I ever called them for help, regardless of what they may have told me or promised me. Unless of course there was something in it for them. I tend to think the "tea money" paid is more to keep them from shutting you down rather than a retainer for any needed favors. Favors cost more, and I tend to think they may not do "some favors" for any price, of course you still have to pay the "tea money" to keep operating...could be wrong I suppose. drogon
OH. I met only two Thais who can be considered "influential". One was a "hi so" (royal family related) and he is now living in the US -> met him throught the ex gf. The police general: Simple, his wife met my mother through AFS... Of course, I never asked or obtained a "favour", nor did I ever mentioned their names. They were just "joker cards" if I ever ran into very serious troubles. -> as I never had troubles in LOS, I was able to keep my friendly relation with them... (and I do not even know if they could have done something to help)

Old Hippie
AH, yeah, ya never know...as in ya never know if you can really count on these people at all, other than to take money from you. I'll sa6y it again, my general guess is if your balls were in the ringer, they wouldn't know you.
CTO
Funny - I know one bloke who doesn't claim on board to know anyone but has helped a few board members out with rather difficult requests.

No, you are absolutely right. This is a point many Farangs simply don't get: how could knowing an influential Thai not be good?? OH, you ask a good question: why is it that so many us otherwise ordinairy middle class Farangs know so many powerful Thais$$$$
