Torneyboy
Travel insurance does not just cover flight cancellations, medical etc ..also if your camera falls off a longtail boat ..put in a claim and you will get a new one ...(need proof of purchase ).. Barry
Funny, but I never get insurance, though I may be covered by paying for my trip by CC.. The only time it ever occurred to me was in a very fast taxi from Phuket airport to Patong.. I always think it's a good idea, but when I go to by the online ticket, my sphyncter tightens over the £20 on top of the £2k+ airfare..
Pom Michael
SQ's 777 from BKK to SIN today was not more than 10% full - really. Never been on a plane so big that was so empty.
Old Hippie
Check if your country has a consumers credit law - for example Sweden but also other western european countries: if you bought the ticket with a credit card and not yet paid the invoice from the credit card company you don't have to pay and the credit card company must try to get back the money from the airline. (NB "force majeure" = higher power) Your credit card may protect you as well.

I guess I'll see for myself tomorrow as I'm on the same flight...only reversed (SIN-BKK)! Cheers, SD
CTO
Jan 98 I flew Bkk to Australia on a 747 that had 20 people! There where as many waitresses as passengers it seemed. Quite a "party" atmosphere developed as people just wondered around a totally empty plane. The MOST empty plane I ever went one was a flight from Qld to NSW. I arrived at the gate to be greated with "Are you Mr CTO" I said yes - thinking I fucked up the departure time I followed the bloke onto the plane and NO ONE else was there. He said - choose a seat any seat. Sat down - he sat down and chatted about the safety stuff. Off we went - 100 odd empty seats.
