As you say if you had no idea about the destination you would heed the warning ..more so for us down here following the Bali fiasco with warnings or non warnings i should say ... Me too, actually I know the USA only very slightly, a few business trips over the years and one, actually good fun, holiday about 20 years ago, is all really. I'd still advise against going anyway. For years the US state department travel advisory's advised against all but essential travel to the UK because of the IRA bomb threat, in particular London and Birmingham.
