shygye
Link The price of rat meat is considerably higher than the price of pork, meaning that only wealthier locals could afford to buy it. Poorer folks had to catch the rats themselves if they wanted to dine on them, he lamented. But not everyone was so pleased with the new-found popularity of the exotic dishes. Dr Surin Prasithiran, from the Suphanburi Public Health Office, said that properly-cooked rat meat should pose no health risks. Cobra consumption presented more of a problem, however. khunsanuk
Hi, Tried it once, couldn't taste anything other than chillies and bone. Tried cobra as well, not too bad, but a bit chewy / tough. Sanuk!
skirtlifter
Found rat to be tastier than chicken if grilled over coals. The thought of eatig rat has prevented me trying it again. The minced variety, as you say, is chillied to death and the bones are minced as well. Haven't been ale to bring myself to try it yet....nor cobra for that matter. Bon appetit. TroyinEwa/Perv
I like to think I'm pretty open-minded about food. I've eaten some shit I never thought I would ever try and liked alot of it. I've even eaten the bugs in Suk. But I just can't get over that it's a farkin rat!! It's a rat, man. I'll never try it and maybe I'm missing out big time but there is NO way.
skirtlifter
Dr Skirtlfter is of the belief that dogs are a man's best friend (not counting some bar girls I know. Mind you there are other BG's I wouldn't mind chomping on) Gotta draw a line at eating my friends though.
Faustian
Agreed.... "Dr" SL. I've eaten a variety of things...bugs, croc, kangaroo (which I felt very bad about), but rats, no way. Just seeing them freaks me out and I see a lot here.
skirtlifter
The rats the villagers eat are rice-eating buggers as opposed to rats living in dumps, sewers and the like. Not sure this will afford a change of mind on your part though.
khunsanuk
Hi, Like skirtlifter says, the rats up country are quite different than those seen in the big cities. Their (the rats') diet is probably a lot cleaner as well. Sanuk!
