Badger77
Just got an email from a friend that is stranded in Thailand. He said BKK is open...they are scheduling departures and he got booked for Thursday. Good news.

radioman
If you are a visitor and just want to leave then maybe some light at the end of this tunnel but as for normal operation that seems to be as far away now as ever. BBC is reporting that PAD are letting some 88 flights out with passengers. No apparent sign of arrivals restarting. The more this seems to continue the more these yellow and red shirted wally's are going to both be marginalised one way or another and then that third hand may be needed to save the day. USVirgin
I hope so, but did you see this one? Restarting Bangkok airport to take at least a week [color:blue]"Normally, checking the IT systems takes one week. We have to check, recheck, check, recheck," Serirat Prasutanond told Reuters, adding that the delay would probably be even longer as some of complex's massive computers might need repair. "I think some systems are damaged," he said, but declined to give further details.[/color] If we're lucky, like an auto shop mechanic, he'll declare, "I think OK!" ..
It is actually *without* passengers; to allow airlines the shift operations to other airports is the claim. http://www.bangkokpost.com/breaking_news/breakingnews.php?id=132398 Cheers, SD
radioman
That seems to be debated. Guy on the news was saying people leaving but also talking about the aircraft being repositioned. As usual, more unknowns than anything, wouldn't want to bet either way.
Bangkoktraveler
Some people are flying out of Chiang Mia and some other airports but Bangkok seems to still be closed at both airports.
USVirgin
I believe the aircraft were being re-positioned to U-Tapao or elsewhere. No one was departing BKK. One of the first out (reportedly) was an Iran Air haj charter from U-Tapao, fair enough.
