jai-dee
In Kanchanaburi town I can recommend Prasopsuk hotel. Friendly and spacious. The only place I can remember in Thailand where plumbing actually works without any leaks. They even deliver breakfast to the room. We had an enormous room for 1,500B with one double and 4 single beds. Theoretically it could sleep 11 adults. Other smaller rooms cost 800B. CTO
Bubi - that is the private Thai museum - very funny I agree but the museum beside the main war cemetery is very good and not at all like that one.

Hamokhamok
If you were staying in Kanchanaburi you could always takes the train trip to Nam Tok to see the countryside. Nice trip - little or no time in Nak Tok unless the train is on time and then you have maybe 40 minutes. Some scary places the train takes around some weird hills and near the river.
